Transfer news LIVE!

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham continue to make headlines as a busy January transfer window approaches the halfway stage, with some huge potential deals in the pipeline. Arsenal are now said to have finally agreed a fee with Shakhtar Donetsk for top target Mykhaylo Mudryk, while they could also challenge rivals Spurs for Leandro Trossard.

Chelsea are pondering a move for Trossard’s Brighton team-mate Moises Caicedo after failing to get Enzo Fernandez from Benfica and are also said to be in talks over Marcus Thuram after seeing new loan signing Joao Felix sent off on his debut last night. The crisis-stricken Blues are also believed to be on the trail of Real Madrid defender Rafa Marin as they bid to save their faltering season.

Tottenham are still at loggerheads with Sporting Lisbon over Pedro Porro, while Wout Weghorst has undergone his Manchester United medical and Lionel Messi could apparently follow great rival Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia in another blockbuster deal worth £245million a year. Joao Felix red card costs Chelsea £2m

08:24 , George Flood

Joao Felix is the talk of the town this morning after what was frankly a quite mad Chelsea debut last night.

Thrown straight into the starting XI for the west London derby against Fulham by an increasingly desperate Graham Potter after completing his high-profile loan switch from Atletico Madrid the day before, the Portuguese international looked the best player on the pitch for a while, full of nutmegs, classy feints and eye-catching trickery.

However, all that impact was lost after the break when he was rightly dismissed for a wretched high challenge on Kenny Tete.

Felix will now serve an instant three-game suspension, with many people pointing out the considerable financial impacts on Chelsea.

According to The Mirror, the ban will cost them around £2m with only 20 games left this season.

The Blues are paying £15m for the short-term loan in total - a £9.7m fee and also covering around £5.3m in wages. Ouch.

Weghorst undergoes Man United medical

One of the biggest surprise moves of the January window so far should be confirmed today as Wout Weghorst joins Manchester United.

It was widely reported yesterday that a deal to take the Dutch international striker to Old Trafford on loan until the end of the season had now been agreed.

Weghorst will join from Burnley, with around £4m heading to Besiktas in order to compensate them for breaking his existing season-long loan deal in Istanbul.

Per Fabrizio Romano, the 30-year-old has now signed a contract and undergone his medical. United are hoping to get him registered in time to be in the squad against City in tomorrow’s Manchester derby.

Messi could join Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia

08:02 , George Flood

Cristiano Ronaldo could soon be joined by long-time rival Lionel Messi in Saudi Arabia, according to the latest reports.

Ronaldo finally joined Al-Nassr in December after weeks of speculation following his explosive early exit from Manchester United, penning a lucrative contract until 2025 that will see him earn £177m per year.

But he may have the limelight stolen by Messi, with reports from Mundo Deportivo seemingly claiming that father Jorge has been in Riyadh negotiating a potential deal with Al-Nassr’s rivals Al-Hilal that would see his son claim a truly staggering £245m a season.

World Cup winner Messi is under contract at Paris Saint-Germain until the summer and has yet to pen a high-profile extension.

Tottenham face Arsenal battle for Trossard

Tottenham could face a battle with Arsenal for Leandro Trossard.

Standard Sport understands that Spurs are interested in a deal for the Brighton forward having declined to activate an option to extend Lucas Moura’s expiring contract last month.

Chelsea have also been linked with Trossard as part of another potential reunion with former Seagulls boss Graham Potter, with talkSPORT now suggesting that Arsenal are also in the fray.

They report that the Gunners are also closely monitoring the situation regarding the Belgian international, who is out of contract in the summer but with Brighton holding the option for an automatic one-year extension.

Chelsea lining up Moises Caicedo move

07:45 , George Flood

Chelsea are targeting a deal for Moises Caicedo as they bid to arrest a wretched run of form.

Graham Potter is under huge pressure after last night’s 2-1 west London derby defeat at Fulham - in which new signing Joao Felix was sent off on his debut - made it just one win in the last nine matches either side of the World Cup break.

Chelsea want new recruits to freshen up their midfield after deals for Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana, with Brighton’s Caicedo an established long-term target.

The Guardian claim that Chelsea are lining up a move for Caicedo this month, with the club not considered as frontrunners in the summer sweepstakes for England duo Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool are also known to hold a strong interest in the Ecuador international, though former Brighton boss Potter will be hoping his prior connection can win the day.

Arsenal make new Mudryk bid as deal edges closer

07:24 , George Flood

Arsenal are getting closer now to the signing of top target Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Gunners have been in pursuit of the Ukraine winger for weeks as Mikel Arteta seeks a new forward option during his side’s Premier League title pursuit, battling Chelsea to get a deal over the line.

Arsenal had already seen two bids totalling around £60m for Mudryk rebuffed by Shakhtar Donetsk, but negotiations have continued and Fabrizio Romano reports that a third offer worth around €70m plus add-ons has now been submitted.

He says Shakhtar want to discuss the add-ons in more detail, with an agreement getting closer. Chelsea have yet to submit any bid for Mudryk, meanwhile.

ICYMI: Tottenham bid to sign Porro complicated by Emerson and Doherty

07:00 , Jonathan Gorrie

Tottenham’s hopes of signing a new right wing-back are being complicated because Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are both happy at the club.

Spurs are keen on Sporting’s Pedro Porro, who has a €45million release clause, but having three senior right wing-backs would leave head coach Antonio Conte with a squad management issue.

Emerson has attracted interested from European clubs but has made it clear that he wants to stay in the Premier League, and specifically London.

ICYMI: Arsenal set for second Raphinha chance

Arsenal could be handed a second chance to sign Raphinha this month.

The Gunners were again engaged with Chelsea in a fierce fight to sign the Brazilian winger over the summer, but he instead opted for a dream £55m switch to Barcelona.

But Raphinha has struggled to settle at the Camp Nou, flattering to deceive in 15 LaLiga appearances so far.

Now the Daily Express claim that Barcelona could make the 26-year-old available for an exit already in the coming weeks, potentially leading to another opportunity for Arsenal to get their man.

Mykhaylo Mudryk backed for Arsenal transfer

Thursday 12 January 2023 17:48 , Jonathan Gorrie

It’s been the saga of the January transfer window thus far but Mykhaylo Mudryk seems destined for Arsenal.

Or, at least, that is the view of Ukrainain manager Vyacheslav Groznyi, who has tipped the Gunners to land their man.

Speaking to UA Football, he said: “No one will ever give €100m for Mudryk! And do not draw a parallel with Antony here. He played so much for Ajax and proved himself there. And Mudryk is not yet a known footballer – a dark horse for Europe, who shot this season in the Champions League.

“As for the transfer, I think the issue will be resolved at the end of January, and for the amount that Arsenal wants. The price will be quite decent, but far from what Shakhtar wants.

“The Pitmen can outplay themselves. If Mudryk is not sold to Arsenal now, they will not get such a sum for him again.”

By avoiding paying a transfer fee, the club could balance FFP concerns all while significantly strengthening.

So important to the cause for so long, letting the Hammers’ all-time leading Premier League goalscorer depart during what could become a relgation battle never seemed to make a huge amount of sense.

While Wolves are thought to be keen on Antonio, the Express and Star reveal West Ham are prepared to block any such exit.

Bellingham irked by Dortmund form

Thursday 12 January 2023 14:58 , Alex Young

Jude Bellingham says Borussia Dortumd's erratic form "definitely does bug me" as the midfielder continues to be linked with a move away.

Real Madrid are understood to be leading the race for the England star, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and United all also keen on him.

"It definitely does bug me," he said of his club's form. "While I was at the World Cup, I was really focused on England. Then the World Cup finishes, and you have to live with the fact that you look at the table and it says that Borussia Dortmund are sixth. And there's no way we should be there in the table given the talent.

"No disrespect to the teams above us right now, but I feel in terms of quality, in terms of the player depth and in positions, we should be a lot higher than we are.

"I'm not afraid to say that to the lads and say that to the staff because that's where our ambition should be. But it's about doing instead of talking."

Three ways Chelsea could line up with Joao Felix

Thursday 12 January 2023 14:14 , George Flood

Joao Felix has been drafted in on loan to help save Chelsea’s season and improve Graham Potter’s failing attack, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The 23-year-old has moved to Stamford Bridge on a deal until the end of the season that has cost £8million plus his £270,000-a-week wages.

Potter will hope Felix can quickly adapt to English football but the Chelsea manager has said that “from a physical perspective he can go in”.

Taking the No11 shirt, Felix can contribute both goals and assists with Chelsea’s non-penalty expected goals the fifth lowest in the Premier League.

That statistic means the Blues are not creating enough chances and shows the need to play Felix as soon as possible, especially with injuries to Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic.

Spurs have Porro problem as Royal eyes stay

Thursday 12 January 2023 12:26 , George Flood

Tottenham’s hopes of signing a new right wing-back are being complicated because Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are both happy at the club, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Spurs are keen on Sporting's Pedro Porro, who has a €45m release clause, but having three senior right wing-backs would leave head coach Antonio Conte with a squad management issue.

Emerson has attracted interested from European clubs but has made it clear that he wants to stay in the Premier League, and specifically London.

The Brazilian has not started a Premier League game for Spurs since the World Cup, with Matt Doherty starting ahead of him against Brentford, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

Emerson, who joined Spurs from Barcelona for £25.8m in 2021, has been the target of criticism from supporters for his performances.

Young wing-back Djed Spence is attracting loan interest from clubs in the Premier League and Bayer Leverkusen but remains focused on fighting for a place at Spurs for now.

Spence joined Spurs in a deal worth up to £20m last summer but has made just six substitute appearances this season in all competitions.

Aubameyang blow over shock Barcelona return

Thursday 12 January 2023 11:26 , George Flood

Some bad news for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who looks likely to be denied a shock return to Barcelona this month.

The Chelsea striker had been linked with a surprise reunion at the Camp Nou in January after a disappointing spell back in the Premier League following a £12m summer switch.

Aubameyang had been subject to an enquiry from Atletico Madrid, but that deal cannot happen in this window as he is unable to be registered by three clubs in the same season.

What’s more, reports from the Metro suggest he can’t even go back to Barca, with Spanish rules preventing a club from registering the same player twice in one season.

Man United pay Besiktas Weghorst loan fee

Thursday 12 January 2023 09:56 , George Flood

Manchester United will pay a £2.5m loan fee for Wout Weghorst.

But as mentioned, that money will go directly to Besiktas rather than parent club Burnley.

Weghorst had been on a season-long loan at Vodafone Park that apparently contained the option for a €10m permanent summer transfer.

Besiktas were demanding to be compensated sufficiently to allow the Dutchman’s dream move to Old Trafford to materialise, and it seems they are content with that figure reported by The Athletic.

Weghorst had notched nine goals in 18 total appearances in Istanbul, appearing to say goodbye to fans after scoring what proved to be the decisive effort in the 2-1 Super Lig win over Kasimpasa on Saturday night.

He managed just two in 20 outings in a miserable spell with Burnley last season, however, as they were relegated from the Premier League.

Tottenham reach Porro agreement

Tottenham have an agreement in principle to sign Pedro Porro, according to the latest speculation.

Standard Sport understands that the Spanish right-back is Antonio Conte’s top target for January as he seeks an upgrade on the likes of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

Chelsea move a ‘real possibility’ for Caicedo

Thursday 12 January 2023 07:58 , George Flood

Chelsea could launch a January swoop for Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuador international has shone for Brighton since a cut-price £4m move from Independiente del Valle last January, becoming one of the most accomplished and sought-after midfielders in the Premier League aged just 21.

Manchester United have tried to sign Caicedo in the past, while the interest from Chelsea and Liverpool has been well-documented.

Now Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports reports that a Chelsea move for the player is a real possibility this month, but likely later in the window due to his agent situation.

The Blues are apparently seen as more likely to go for it than Liverpool, though will likely have to shell out around £70m.

Brighton, it is said, are more likely to engage on a deal for Caicedo than World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

Thursday 12 January 2023 07:39 , George Flood

Speaking of Arsenal, they could be handed a second chance to sign Raphinha this month.

Arsenal closer to Mudryk agreement

Thursday 12 January 2023 07:29 , George Flood

It appears that Arsenal are moving in the right direction in their attempts to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Gunners have long since made Shakhtar Donetsk’s star winger their top target for January, battling with Chelsea for his signature.

However, they are now favourites once again after their London rivals swooped for Joao Felix, having seen two bids worth up to £62m dismissed.

But CBS Sports correspondent Ben Jacobs writes that the clubs are reaching “a little more consensus on the guaranteed part of the fee”, with Shakhtar having previously been holding out for around £85m.

Could an agreement finally be reached this week?

Chelsea and Man United fight for Walker-Peters

Thursday 12 January 2023 07:25 , George Flood

Chelsea are also competing with Manchester United for the signing of Kyle Walker-Peters, it seems.

The right-back has continued to impress in a struggling Southampton team since his £12m switch from Tottenham in the summer of 2020.

Now talkSPORT suggest he is stalling over a new contract, leading to interest from both Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.

Walker-Peters, who earned his first senior England caps earlier this year, could join United as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while Chelsea need additional cover and support for the injured Reece James.

Chelsea still pushing for Thuram after Felix deal

Thursday 12 January 2023 07:20 , George Flood

Chelsea’s signing of Joao Felix will not impact their pursuit of Marcus Thuram, reports suggest.

Portuguese star Felix has secured a loan move from Atletico Madrid to Stamford Bridge and could make his debut in tonight’s west London derby against Fulham.

But his arrival will not spell the end of Chelsea’s other forward pursuits, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist says that negotiations will continue for Borussia Monchengladbach and France winger Thuram, out of contract at the end of the season and subject to plenty of interest.

He also says that the deal for RB Leipzig frontman Christopher Nkunku is 100 per cent sealed for the summer.

Wednesday 11 January 2023 22:53 , Marc Mayo

Danny Murphy has insisted that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s lack of goals for Chelsea are not all his fault amid talks of a move back to Barcelona.

He told talkSPORT: “Aubameyang has been a one-in-two goalscorer for his whole career and he’s done it in the Premier League. If you get the right service to him and play more progressive football than Chelsea do, he’ll score goals. I’ve got no doubt about it.

“I can only go by what I see on the pitch, and the last few times I’ve seen him, he’s forever making runs and not getting the ball.

“The home game against Man City, run it back. Watch how many times he runs in behind and doesn’t get the ball. Put him in the City side and he would score a bagful.”

“Over the years, De Gea has done tremendous performances to save the team and he deserves the time and credit for that.

West Ham forced to move on from En-Nesyri

Wednesday 11 January 2023 09:46 , Matt Verri
