Chelsea told to make move to sign Harry Kane

10:52 , Jonathan Gorrie

Chelsea, seemingly always on the lookout for more new signings at the moment, have been told to move for Tottenham star Harry Kane by Glen Johnson.

The England captain has entered the final 12 months of his contract in north London and, with Spurs struggling, Kane’s long-term future has been called into question.

Speaking to Betfred, Johnson said: “I think pretty much any team would benefit from signing him. Who needs him most right now? Probably Chelsea. Making a move from Tottenham to Chelsea is a big call but I can’t really see him ending up there if I’m being honest.

“Let’s face it, if he stays at Tottenham then he’s not winning anything and it would be a shame for a player of his ability to have a career where he doesn’t win anything.

“He’s a legend at Tottenham, so would he want to ruin his status by moving to another team in London? I’m not sure. It would probably be easier for him to move to a club outside of London.”

Potter: Fans will really like Mudryk

Sunday 15 January 2023 20:25 , Matt Verri

Graham Potter has backed Mykhaylo Mudryk to have a big future at Chelsea, and joked he hopes to remain at Stamford Bridge for the duration of his eight-and-a-half-year contract.

Mudryk was unveiled at Stamford Bridge during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace after finalising his £89million transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Potter said: “He’s a player with a big future, exciting, one vs one, he’s very direct, he attacks the back-line, can go into wide areas but also affects the goal. A really exciting player and I think our supporters will really like him.”

Remarkably, Chelsea have signed Mudryk on a deal until 2031 as they look to spread their costs throughout the contract.

“I’m the head coach and, as you know, I’ve had enough to worry about before thinking about contract lengths,” said Potter.

“I’ll leave that to the club and what’s right for the club. I’ll try to support as best I can. I’m looking forward to working with him. If I’m here for the remainder of his contract, then we’ll all be happy!”

Arteta: Arsenal will have discipline

Sunday 15 January 2023 19:24 , Matt Verri

Mudryk was Arsenal’s top target and the Gunners had been involved in lengthy negotiations with Shakhtar, seemingly closing in on a deal before Chelsea swooped to hijack the deal over the weekend.

“I’m very proud to have the players that we have,” Arteta told Sky Sports when asked about Chelsea signing Mudryk.

“We always want to improve the squad. The club is the first one that is trying to do everything we can to improve the players.

“But I think as well we have to have some discipline. We have to be very consistent in the targets that we want but also in what we are able to do in each moment.”

Spurs consider Zaniolo move

Tottenham are eyeing a potential January swoop for Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Roma man is out of contract next summer and a new deal is looking unlikely, with his relationship with the fans increasingly strained.

Chelsea-bound Mudryk given Shakhtar guard of honour

Sunday 15 January 2023 10:58 , George Flood

It seems that Shakhtar Donetsk’s players have already said their farewells to Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Ukraine international was treated to a guard of honour at a session during Shakhtar’s winter break training camp in Turkey on Saturday, before departing for London and putting the finishing touches on that blockbuster switch to Chelsea.

As revealed earlier, Mudryk is completing his Chelsea medical this morning and officially signing his seven-and-a-half year contract that will last until the summer of 2030.

The deal will then presumably be announced before he is at Stamford Bridge and potentially presented to the crowd ahead of a must-win London derby against Crystal Palace.

Tottenham want Hincapie and Porro deals

Sunday 15 January 2023 10:33 , George Flood

Plenty going on with Tottenham at the moment as well.

Spurs are trying to sign Spanish right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon, but still seem locked at an impasse with the Portuguese giants over their top January target as they demand that his £39.9m release clause is met in full.

According to The Sun, Tottenham are lining up a £20m move for Bayer Leverkusen and Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie in addition to still chasing Porro.

They add that fresh talks with Sporting over the latter are planned for this week, with Spurs currently only willing to pay around £27m for his services.

Tottenham could potentially sign Hincapie now and then loan him back to Leverkusen for the rest of the 2022/23 season, as they did in the summer with Udinese defender Destiny Udogie.

Chelsea table Noni Madueke bid

Sunday 15 January 2023 10:20 , George Flood

We wait to see what impact Chelsea’s deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk will have on their pursuit of Noni Madueke.

The Blues had been hot on the trail of the PSV Eindhoven winger, an England Under-21 international and former Tottenham youth star.

Before the Mudryk hijack surfaced, ESPN reported that Chelsea had lodged an official bid for Madueke worth €30m.

That came after an official enquiry earlier in the week for a long-term Graham Potter target, with PSV reluctant to see the 20-year-old leave after also selling Cody Gakpo to Liverpool in this window.

Raphinha is not the only winger target seemingly back on Arsenal’s transfer radar after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Gunners had a number of names in that position over the summer and were also strongly linked with Orlando city star Facundo Torres late last year.

According to the Daily Express, Arsenal could go back in for the likes of Villarreal’s Spain international Yeremy Pino and Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen and France.

Arsenal relaunch Raphinha move after Mudryk blow

Sunday 15 January 2023 09:14 , George Flood

And where do Arsenal turn now after having their top target stolen from right under their noses at the 11th hour?

Standard Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella reports that a familiar name is very much back on the radar in Raphinha.

We understand that Gunners sporting director Edu has made contact with the Brazilian winger’s agent Deco over a possible January move as they quickly explore alternatives to Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Arsenal and Chelsea both tried to sign Raphinha in the summer, but he ended up holding out for a dream £55m switch from Leeds to Barcelona.

But his stint at the Camp Nou so far has been disappointing, with just two goals in 15 LaLiga appearances, leading to suggestions that the Blaugrana are already looking to ship him out.

Potter convinced Mudryk over Chelsea move

Sunday 15 January 2023 08:33 , George Flood

For all the complaints about his management, approach and allegedly defeatist attitude during a dire run either side of the World Cup break that has seen Chelsea win only one of their last nine matches, a worst top-flight run since 1996, it seems that Graham Potter was hugely influential to the Mykhaylo Mudryk swoop.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the under-fire manager had a phone conversation with the Ukrainian a few days ago to help persuade a player that appeared to have his heart set on Arsenal that Stamford Bridge was actually the right next destination for him.

Chelsea are initially said to have held a meeting with Shaktar’s top brass in London last Wednesday, when the wheels for this stunning last-gasp hijack were set in motion.

Asked about the destabilising effect of an opposition bid immediately before a game, Moyes said: “By the way it is, yeah, I agree with you.”
