Postecoglou interview in full

Saturday 1 July 2023 11:12 , Alex Young

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says he is aiming to "fulfil the dreams and aspirations of every Tottenham supporter" as he starts work at the club.

The Australian was confirmed as Spurs’ new manager almost a month ago, signing a four-year contract to become Antonio Conte's permanent successor after impressing at Celtic.

His challenge is now to bring that attacking style of play to Tottenham, where fans have had to endure some fairly turgid football under Conte and even during Jose Mourinho’s reign in the recent past.

“The football is designed to bring success. Alongside that it’s really important to me that there is an element of what I think most fans and players want to be associated with, and that’s football that’s exciting, that people talk about, not just the end result but also the manner in which you played your football.

“That’s really important to me, a, because I think it’s a way to be successful and also secondly, because it allows people to grab onto those things that are most special about our game, those memorable moments.

“People want to see their team scoring goals, being exciting, not conceding goals, being aggressive in their approach, all these kinds of things that everyone seeks in their own football team. That’s what I want to try to provide. The basis of it will be that we want to be a team that wins things and, ultimately, entertains our fans.”

Man City on Declan Rice failure: ‘We don’t panic'

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has revealed why the club ultimately pulled out of the race to sign Declan Rice.

Arsenal are due to sign the West Ham skipper for £105m, a fee which the City chief has suggested is not “intelligent”.

He said: "If you look at what we did at the start of this project, there was a need for a lot of changes and investment - but not anymore.

“If you look at what we have done in the last five years, our level of investment in new players is well thought out.

“We are not the top net-spenders of last year or the last three or five years. We have a platform where we know what to do and we can do it with time and intelligence.

“When we don't like a deal, we walk away and we don't panic.”
