Plymouth Argyle transfer target Mike Eerdhuijzen has 'reservations given Argyle's position in the Championship' about making a move to Home Park, according to a report from Sky Sports News.

The Pilgrims remain rooted to the bottom of the table following their 5-0 thrashing by Burnley at Home Park last night and are trying to add new recruits to their squad as soon as possible, with an away game coming up against fourth-placed Sunderland on Saturday.

Argyle have been left with Victor Palsson and Julio Pleguezuelo as their only fit and available central defenders because of injuries to Brendan Galloway, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season, and Kornel Szucs.

A report on the Sky Sports Transfer Centre from Anthony Joseph, Lyall Thomas and Mark McAdam this lunchtime said: "Mike Eerdhuijzen remains unconvinced about joining Plymouth after the club had a bid accepted by Sparta Rotterdam.

"He is understood to have reservations given Argyle’s position in the Championship. They are currently bottom on 21 points – six points from safety. The club’s proposal at the moment contains a considerable wage cut if they get relegated.

"However, he would welcome the opportunity to work under new Plymouth manager Miron Muslic. Talks are due to continue today and the club still hope to give him a medical and register him before this weekend’s fixture."

Eerdhuijzen began his career at FC Volendam and joined Sparta Rotterdam in the summer of 2022. He has gone on to play 61 times for them in the Dutch top division. The defender has started 17 of Sparta's 19 Eredivisie games this season, most recently the 1-1 draw at home to RKC Waalwijk on Sunday.

Argyle have made just two signings so far during the January transfer window, with Michael Baidoo arriving from Swedish side Elfsborg on a contract until 2028 for an undisclosed club record fee while Tymoteusz Puchacz has joined on loan from German Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel.
