Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid as his Liverpool contract winds down. The full-back has just over six months left on his current deal, meaning he could leave Anfield on a free transfer.

And a recent report in The Daily Mail has stated that Madrid are planning for life with the 26-year-old. They claim that Alexander-Arnold wants a new challenge under manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The 33-cap England international's contract situation on Merseyside means that Liverpool could, possibly, lose an £80million asset for nothing. The Reds, however, are said to be insisting that no agreement has been reached and The ECHO understands that Alexander-Arnold has yet to tell Liverpool he wishes to join Los Blancos.

Elsewhere, a separate report via Spanish publication Marca has claimed that the signing is '90 per cent complete'. They argue that Madrid are cautious about celebrating prematurely, but a deal is imminent.

It's said that everything has now been agreed on, with only a signature pending. A deal for next summer could be potentially agreed from January 1, due to his contract expiring within six months.

When asked in September about his future, the Reds academy graduate opened up about his ambitions of being captain. However, Alexander-Arnold also sent a worrying hint on his long-term future at Liverpool - depending on your interpretation of his TV comments.

"I have always said I want to captain the club," he told Sky Sports. "That is a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands, I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say."
