Liverpool have been boosted by the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold to training, but Reds boss Arne Slot admits he's still unsure as to whether the right-back will be ready for the trip to Goodison Park on Wednesday evening.

Alexander-Arnold was injured during the 2-0 win at Bournemouth when he went down in the second half holding his thigh and asking to be substituted. Scans revealed that the injury wasn't serious but the 26-year-old missed the win over Tottenham in the League Cup semi-final as well as the defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Slot confirmed that Alexander-Arnold has now returned to training, but the Reds are still waiting to discover the extent of the injury Joe Gomez suffered after the defender was forced off during the loss at Plymouth. Slot admitted that the injury to Gomez was a "concern" after he missed all of January with a hamstring issue.

Slot said: "Trent has done parts of training sessions with us yesterday. Let's see how he is today. He will train hopefully with us again and then we have to decide if we'll take him to the game.

"Joe, it's the same leg he had the injury last time. We are still assessing that. But he will definitely not be with us tomorrow."

Slot admitted that Liverpool are looking to bounce back from their shock FA Cup exit when they face Everton in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison.

A victory will take the Reds nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table and Slot says that his side must "show a different side" after performance levels dropped below required standards at Plymouth.

He said: "If you are working at a club like this, you should compete for every trophy. To lose against Plymouth is unacceptable. We are disappointed with that result.

"Now we have to show a different side of us tomorrow. It was not only the result, the performance was far below Liverpool standards as well."
