Arne Slot has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to miss Sunday's FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle, with the Liverpool boss also putting doubt on his involvement against Everton.

Alexander-Arnold was missing for the Reds' Carabao Cup semi-final win over Tottenham on Thursday after being forced off with a thigh problem at Bournemouth last weekend. It was hoped that he might be fit for Sunday's trip to Plymouth, although Slot has ruled his involvement out, while there's a race against time for next week's derby at Goodison Park.

"Difficult to say," Slot said when asked whether Alexander-Arnold playing against Everton. "Like I said before, it's not going to take months, and not even weeks, but that's only three days after the Plymouth Argyle game, so let's wait and see if he's available.

"We also have to look at long-term, we don't want to take risks with so many games afterwards, but if he's fit, then of course we will use him."

Alexander-Arnold is currently Liverpool's only major injury concern, with Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones having returned to action while Joe Gomez has been back in training recently, although Tyler Morton is facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knock. Slot will therefore have plenty of options available to him as he eyes up changes for Sunday.

The Reds boss has confirmed he will make adjustments to his side for the trip to Plymouth, with Liverpool's schedule having just become more congested. Having booked their place in the Carabao Cup final on March 16, the Reds' fixture against Aston Villa - originally scheduled for March 15 - has now been moved to February 19.

"I think it's always a tricky tie no matter what team you play because it's an away game, it's their final probably, as many times when Liverpool goes anywhere," Slot said about Sunday's game. "But it is true if you play with a team that hasn't played so much together, that is always, for the players, a bit more difficult.

"But I think we've seen already a few times when we played with a team that hasn't played much together, even in Eindhoven in the Champions League, these players were able to play a very good game.

"I think it's important in these moments for some players that don't get much playing time to have that playing time, so whenever we need them they are ready. If you never play them, it is so difficult for them to be ready if we do get some injuries or suspensions.

"We will definitely use a few players that haven't played that much, but we will make that final call tomorrow."
