Trent Alexander-Arnold injury latest as Liverpool get major boost
Trent Alexander-Arnold has handed Liverpool an injury boost after scan results confirmed that that Reds vice-captain has avoided serious injury against Bournemouth. The full-back limped off with a thigh issue after 70 minutes in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over the Cherries.
The 26-year-old underwent a scan on Monday to discover the severity of the injury, with there being confidence that the England international would manage to avoid a lengthy lay-off.
That has now been confirmed, with the scan showing that Alexander-Arnold has avoided serious injury. However, he now faces a race against time to prove his fitness in time for the Merseyside derby against Everton on February 12..

A specific timeframe has not been put on the defender’s return as his rehabilitation is managed day to day, with Alexander-Arnold remaining a major doubt to face Tottenham Hotspur in Thursday’s League Cup semi-final second leg as a result.
Arne Slot confirmed after beating Bournemouth that he expected to be without the defender against Spurs after he asked to be replaced at the Vitality Stadium.
“The situation is he said to me that you have to take me off and he sat on the floor and we took him off,” the Dutchman explained. "He felt something, I can’t tell you exactly what it was and how bad it is as we are (talking now) only just after the game.
“But it’s never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution. It’s not a fact but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday. Let’s hope he is back with us as soon as possible.”
Liverpool will not take any risks with Alexander-Arnold, with Conor Bradley set to replace the right-back against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Northern Ireland international is also expected to retain his place in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round trip to Plymouth Argyle with it unlikely that the Reds vice-captain would have been utilised against the Pilgrims even if he had avoided injury.
Consequently, he has been granted the best possible chance to focus on recovering in time to face Everton at Goodison Park.
Alexander-Arnold is currently Liverpool’s only absentee heading into Thursday’s clash with Spurs after the Reds recently welcomed Diogo Jota, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones back to training.
Gomez, who was left out of the matchday squad against Bournemouth along with Federico Chiesa due to Slot boasting a fully fit squad going into the game, is also an option at right-back in the absence of Alexander-Arnold.
