Trent Alexander-Arnold Real Madrid latest - La Liga threats, Liverpool pledge and contract claim
Trent Alexander-Arnold faces an increasingly uncertain future at Anfield, with his Liverpool contract set to expire at the end of the season. Since the start of the new year, foreign clubs have been eligible to open pre-contract talks with the 26-year-old defender over a free transfer in the summer.
Rather than cash in on Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window, the Reds refused to be bullied into a sale. Liverpool decided to stand their ground, potentially missing out on millions in the transfer window.
If the England international doesn't pen an extension, he'll be free to leave and the Reds won't be entitled to a compensation fee. So, with that being said, the Echo has rounded up everything you need to know about Alexander-Arnold's future at Liverpool.

LaLiga chief responds to Real Madrid 'threat'
Javier Tebas has broken his silence after Real Madrid reportedly threatened to quit LaLiga. On Monday, Spanish outlet Sport claimed that Los Blancos could withdraw from the competition and join a different league after Jude Bellingham was given a controversial red card in a 1-1 draw with Osasuna.
Speaking at Los Desayunos de La Cronica de Badajoz, an event that was taking place on Tuesday in the city of Badajoz in southwest Spain, as quoted by the MailOnline, the LaLiga president said: "It's a hoax.
"It's impossible and they themselves know it. There is a sports law that says that Spanish clubs have to play in national competitions on an obligatory basis. It (their threat) is used to reaffirm the strategy they are following. Which league are they going to go to?"
Valverde content with new position
Speaking to reporters ahead of Real Madrid's clash against Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League play-off, Federico Valverde was quizzed on his new position. The 26-year-old midfielder has often operated as a right-back this term due to injuries in Carlo Ancelotti's side.
As quoted by Marca, Valverde said: "I'm happy that I'm doing well in that position. I'm doing it because other teammates are injured. I've had to respond to that position and I think I've done quite well.
"I'm willing to play for the team and the coach, whatever he wants. It's a position that I'm enjoying and learning a lot from. I'm still in the starting eleven, which is what's important to me."
Real Madrid step up Liverpool pursuit
According to The Telegraph, Real Madrid plan to step up their attempts to sign Alexander-Arnold after missing out in January. The report states that the Spanish giants view the Liverpool star as a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal.
It's said that Real Madrid made a £20m bid for Alexander-Arnold in the winter window, but there was 'no expectation of a deal progressing'. The Englishman only has five months or so left on his contract at Anfield.
Alexander-Arnold issues rare Liverpool future update
Speaking to the BBC in September 2024, Alexander-Arnold said: "I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say. I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public - and this one won't be either."
He added: "The most important thing is trophies if I'm honest. I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. If you have a personality that is an elite athlete who will do anything to win, then that is what drives them.
"We were close to the title last season and we got a cup. The quadruple was on for a while - the signs were there. This season we are looking really good. It is still early days, but we need a lot of consistency and to beat a lot of teams.
"Then you have the other cups, the Champions League and everything that comes around it. It will be difficult but we are looking to win as many trophies as we can."
Alexander-Arnold pledges future to Liverpool
Back in 2018, Alexander-Arnold told The Times that he wants to stay at Anfield for the duration of his career. The Liverpool defender said: "There is nowhere else I’d rather be than Liverpool. Somewhere I want to stay for the rest of my career is Liverpool.
"It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. Liverpool are special. It’s completely down to the fans. Whether we are winning or losing we always have their love. I want to become captain one day. That’s definitely a dream of mine.
"I hope with dedication, the right advice and the hard work that still needs to be put in that one day I might achieve that dream of becoming captain, something that me and my family will be very proud of if it comes."
