Trent Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool future remains a fierce topic of conversation. The Reds academy graduate has remained keen to keep the discussions out of the public eye and in the press, however reports in Spain continue to ramp up.

The Liverpool vice-captain has been responded well to the criticism he received in light of a disappointing display against Manchester United, with impressive performances against Accrington Stanley and Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot will continue to field questions over the future of his full-back, and face scrutiny over an extension for his captain Virgil van Dijk and star forward Mohamed Salah. Alexander-Arnold seemingly emphatically shut down speculation emerging from Spain at the end of 2024, after mimicking a hand-talking gesture in light of report that he had signalled his intent to join Los Blancos.

Days before the opening of the January transfer window, the reigning Spanish and European champions made an approach to Liverpool - over the possibility of a move in the winter, which was rejected by the Reds.

Speculation continues to be rife surrounding the 26-year-old, the ECHO looks at the latest reports.

Real Madrid hopeful of Trent Alexander-Arnold January deal

Marca continue their flurry of reports on the full-back situation at the Bernabeu. The outlet cites that Madrid are pushing to sign Alphonso Davies, with the Bayern Munich defender out of contract in the summer, and are hoping for a response over whether he will agree fresh terms with the German giants.

In addition, they say that they are not giving up on the prospect of signing Alexander-Arnold this month, despite the Reds in the midst of the Premier League title race.

Marca claim that Madrid will continue to lurk and hope the moment to approach Liverpool with a new proposal for the defender. In a passage, they write: "With the player's yes in their pocket, through Valdebebas, they are hopeful that the owners of the English club will end up accepting the offer."

Liverpool stance on Trent Alexander-Arnold amid Real Madrid exit talk

Liverpool face a battle keep Alexander-Arnold on Merseyside this month and beyond, with the looming prospect of the England international leaving for free at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old is able to join Real for free should he wait until the summer, despite an initial January bid rejected by the Reds, as the ECHO reported, and there is hope that they can tie him down to fresh terms.

Speaking at the beginning of the month, the Liverpool head coach said: "I am convinced that Trent is playing for us on Sunday and I think it is so difficult in football to talk about what happens in a month or in six months. You can also ask me the question: ‘Are you convinced that Virgil (van Dijk) and Mo (Salah) are here next season?’

"So in football, it's such a difficult question to answer because there is hardly any long term in football, especially not for a manager. So your only focus is on the short term. The only thing I do know is that he is fully focused and ready to play for us on Sunday and as long as he is here."
