Bayern Munich is reportedly monitoring Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of potentially making a move for the Liverpool right-back this year.

Alexander-Arnold's current Reds contract is due to expire in June and Real Madrid's interest in signing the 26-year-old is no secret.

Until now, it appeared as though there were only two realistic options for Alexander-Arnold: sign a new contract at Liverpool or move to Madrid.

However, a report by Kicker says that a third option is on the table — and that option is Vincent Kompany's Bayern. The Bavarian club could be in the market for a new right-back this year, with stalwart Joshua Kimmich set to become a free agent in the summer.

Bayern is said to accept that Alexander-Arnold's most likely destination remains Madrid, but the German giant will reportedly be waiting in the wings should it become clear that he might be open to moving to Bavaria.

In the seemingly unlikely event that Alexander-Arnold ends up in Munich, Liverpool and Bayern could end up effectively swapping full-backs, with German journalist Christian Falk reporting that the Reds are considering a move for Kimmich.

Kimmich, 29, has made more than 400 appearances for Bayern but, as mentioned above, he is into the final six months of his deal at the Allianz Arena.

Kimmich has been linked with Liverpool before and is on high wages at Bayern, but considering it does not look as though Liverpool will receive a transfer fee for Alexander-Arnold this month, the chance to replace the England international with a proven, top-level right-back for free could appeal to the Reds.
