The future of on-loan Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is still uncertain. His current boss, Oliver Glasner, claims that despite Chalobah being discussed as a possible recall option to solve Enzo Maresca's defensive problems, the player is keen to stay at Crystal Palace.

Chalobah was recruited by Palace late on in the summer after being left out of Maresca's pre-season tour squad. He was then kept as part of a large group sidelined at Cobham to be sold.

However, with injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, Chelsea have been drawn back to Chalobah and they hold a clause allowing for him to return this month. It was Chelsea, Glasner also claims, who pushed for Chalobah not to be involved in Saturday's FA Cup clash.

Palace beat Stockport without the 25-year-old but had planned for him to start. When asked why the defender was missing, Glasner showed his frustration.

“It’s not too easy to explain,” he said. “But it’s a contractual issue. We had to take care. This is why he didn’t play. I am not a lawyer, but I was told that in this round, it’s not that clear, in this round, it’s better not to play.”

Although it has not been confirmed, Chelsea's wishes could be that Chalobah does not get cup-tied. Had he been named in the Palace squad he would therefore be ineligible to play for Chelsea later on in the tournament this season.

Now, speaking ahead of Wednesday's match against Leicester City, Glasner offered the latest, hitting out at the disruption caused by Chelsea. "I want to be honest," he started. "Chelsea has the possibility to call him back from loan.

"There’s uncertainty: will they do it, when will they do it. We need clarity. He wants to stay, but we are not the pilots flying the plane."

Glasner has remained consistent on Chalobah's stance, too, saying at the weekend: “I know he wants [to stay] and we want him to stay, so I think yes [he will stay].

"But, again, there are still 19 days to go in the transfer window. Anything can happen. But when you ask me, I want [us to] stay together with this squad. I know Trevoh wants to stay, Marc [Guehi] wants to stay. These are the main issues in the last days."

Guehi is one of the options Chelsea have an eye on for other mid-season reinforcements. He was valued at over £65million during the summer window by Palace but has just 18 months left on his deal now. Chelsea also have a 20% sell-on clause which could be used to leverage any transfer.
