Trey Nyoni was spotted at Liverpool's AXA Training Center wearing a protective boot earlier this week. The 17-year-old lined up at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, racking up 76 minutes before being substituted as the Reds chased an equalizer.

There was no hint of an injury when Nyoni left the pitch at Home Park, and the Mail reports that there are no serious concerns over the teeneager's fitness, and that he was wearing the boot purely as a precaution.

Nyoni would ordinarily have been expected to feature in the Reds’ UEFA Youth League game against Stuttgart on Tuesday but did not figure as the young Reds exited the competition on penalties.

Liverpool has contended with several minor injury problems in recent weeks, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones all missing game time this month.

Reds head coach Arne Slot said that Jones would be available to return in Wednesday's Merseyside derby, while Alexander-Arnold could also return after missing the last two games with a thigh problem.

Liverpool is still assessing Gomez's injury, though, after he came off after 11 minutes against Plymouth. Slot said: “Trent has done parts of training sessions with us. Not ‘sessions’, a session, yesterday.

“So, let’s see how he is today. He will train, hopefully, with us again and then we have to decide if we take him to the game, yes or no. Joe, it’s the same leg where he had the injury last time. We are still assessing that but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.”

Midfielder Tyler Morton, meanwhile, is facing a significant spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
