Who is Trey Ogusunyi? Liverpool eyes teenage starlet as latest academy addition
Liverpool is reportedly interested in landing Sunderland wonderkid Trey Ogunsuyi.
In the recent past, the Reds have made a commitment to signing talented youngsters, with the likes of Trey Nyoni, Amara Nallo and Rio Ngumoha all joining Liverpool from Leicester City, West Ham and Chelsea respectively. And now it looks as though Ogunsuyi could be the latest youngster to move to Merseyside.
The Northern Echo report Liverpool has sent senior scouts to watch Ogunsuyi in action on a number of occasions in recent weeks. The 17-year-old is a Belgian youth international who signed his first professional deal with Sunderland back in January, having been with them since 2016.

Liverpool also saw the 17-year-old upfront on Merseyside when he scored two goals for the Black Cats U18's as they lost 4-2 to the Reds U18's. And Ogunsuyi also scored against in Sunderland U21's 3-2 defeat against Liverpool back in September too.
However, as time goes by, there is an increasing sense that Liverpool could look to try and land Ogunsuyi in January in order to bolster their youth team ranks. And while Sunderland would like to keep ahold of the teenage forward, they will know they are battling against a side who sit top of the Premier League at the moment.
One source of comfort for Sunderland supporters though may be the fact they are committed at first team level to giving opportunity to youngsters, with the likes of teenagers Chris Rigg and Tom Watson both having starred in the Championship for Regis Le Bris' side.
Should this be of interest to Ogunsuyi, he may opt to stick around at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland offering him a quicker route to first team action than Liverpool would be able to.
Ogunsuyi's pro deal in January was described by Sunderland as a "long-term deal" when it was announced, with the deal set to run through till the Summer of 2026, meaning they will be in a strong negotiating position should Liverpool table a bid for the Belgian.
Liverpool.com says: "Signing Ogunsuyi would be another statement from Liverpool that they are keen on strengthening their youth team by bringing in players they can develop into top class professionals. Sunderland will want to keep ahold of the 17-year-old, but the reality is if Liverpool come knocking, and the price is right, they should be able to sign Ogunsuyi."
