Tributes as ex-Torquay United goalkeeper dies from rare cancer
A GoFundMe page launched after the death of well-known Torquay goalkeeper Scott Corderoy has raised £11,200 since it was set up by friend Stu Collyer on Tuesday.
The page reached the £12,000 mark in just 24 hours after the former Torquay United trainee keeper and coach died from a rare form of cancer which he had fought for more than three years.
Scott, who was a trainee at Torquay in the early 2000s, went on to enjoy notable success in local non-league football with teams including Watcombe Wanderers and Stoke Gabriel.

During the 2015-16 campaign, Scott made a return to Plainmoor in order to provide goalkeeping competition for Kevin Nicholson’s first team, as the Gulls overcame the odds to secure a notable ‘Great Escape’ from relegation.
Stu wrote on the GoFundMe page he set up to help his mate's family: “Scott was strong, courageous, dignified and damn right stubborn throughout his illness, and ultimately went out on his own terms, in his own home, surrounded by his nearest and dearest.
“He was not only my best mate and one of a kind, he was an incredible husband, the most inspiring and loving dad, a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many.
“Scotty wouldn’t want you to be sad, he’d want you to be filled with love, as he was throughout his life, and particularly towards the end.
“Jodie and the children will be the beneficiary of this amazing fundraiser in order to cover the costs of Scott’s funeral, and anything else that the family find themselves needing in the coming weeks and months.”
A statement from Torquay United FC said: "It is with deep sadness that Torquay United FC has learned of the passing of former United goalkeeper Scott Corderoy.
"Having graduated from The Gulls’ youth system in the early 2000s, Corderoy went on to enjoy notable success in local non-league circles with the likes of Watcombe Wanderers and Stoke Gabriel amongst others. During the 2015/16 campaign, Scott made a return to Plainmoor in order to provide goalkeeping competition for Kevin Nicholson’s first team, as The Gulls overcame the odds to secure a notable ‘Great Escape’ from relegation.
"A legendary figure at all the clubs he has represented on the pitch, Scott was also a passionate Liverpool supporter who became a hugely popular coach off it, and he was proud to bring his Saltash U11 Girls to Plainmoor earlier this year, to attend our pre-season fixture against Plymouth Argyle."
As a tribute to Scott, Torquay will hold a one-minute applause before the kick-off of Saturday’s home match against Hemel Hempstead Town. Find the fundraising page at https://gofund.me/e6e89b16.
