Tributes paid to one-of-a-kind Rangers fan after sudden passing
TRIBUTES have been paid to a well-known Rangers fan who passed away suddenly this week.
Robert Ryan, known as Boab10s on X, passed away on January 28 at the age of 37.
Robert’s friend and fellow Rangers fan Garry Carmody first met him around 15 years ago while sitting in the same section at Ibrox before they also started to interact with each other on X.
Garry says Robert, who was from Clydebank, was “one of a kind”.
He said: “We started talking and I quickly realised he was a unique guy.
“He was a really funny, smart guy and he had a real likeable factor to him that you took to easily.”
Robert and Garry would see a lot of Rangers games together but in recent years they saw each other outside of football more as Robert was unable to attend as many matches due to health issues.
Garry says Robert was a “caring friend” and he will be “greatly missed” by everyone who knew him.
He continued: “He always put you first, he always cared about you, was asking after you, was always looking to make sure you were okay and even though he would have his own health problems he wouldn’t get himself down about that.
“I’ll miss how caring he was.”
Robert was well known on X amongst other football fans, with Garry saying he “never shied away” from sharing his thoughts.
He said: “He always had his opinions and they maybe weren’t always the same as everyone else's but he was never scared to say what he thought or to be himself.
“He was himself and he wouldn’t apologise for that which I always respected about him.”
Garry shared a post on the app letting people know Robert had passed away which has since been flooded with replies.
Daily Record Sport replied: “Poor soul. A real good man.”
Another person said: “Robert was unique and so genuine. He will be sadly missed by so many.”
A third replied: “That’s a shame, remember him well from Rangersmedia. RIP Boab.”
Another commented: “Really sorry to hear that Garry, as I said spoke to him many a time on here over the years and was always a class act.”
A fifth person wrote: “I’m so sorry Garry. He was a character and well liked by so many of us on here.”
