Troy Deeney 'absolutely savaged' by a Newcastle United diehard after she took great exception
Troy Deeney has been 'absolutely savaged' by a Newcastle United fan after the pundit claimed Tyneside was 'not a desirable place' to live.
Deeney appeared on CBS Sports Golazo last month to tell a live television audience in the U.S. that Newcastle was 'not a desirable place to go and live because you're so far away from London'. The former Watford captain claimed it was 'difficult to get people there' despite Newcastle signing, among others, Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Sven Botman, who have all spoken fondly of the area.
A few weeks have passed since Deeney's comments, but one Newcastle fan did not forget what the 36-year-old said. As Deeney and roving reporter Geoff Shreeves interviewed supporters outside the Emirates ahead of Newcastle's Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg win against Arsenal on Wednesday night, a Magpies fan gave the former striker a piece of her mind.

"He was absolutely savaged by a Newcastle United fan," Shreeves said. "This lady took great exception to something he said on CBS about Newcastle not being a nice place to live."
Deeney followed that up by saying he 'wasn't lying' and Nigel Reo-Coker told his fellow pundit he was 'crazy to say that when he's from Birmingham'. Deeney then rowed back and claimed the North East was actually a 'nice place'.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe previously stressed he had 'never experienced someone not wanting to come here because of the area'.
"It's trying to sell the complete package to players because the football, for me, has to be the most important thing," he added. "If a player is thinking about other things, maybe, they're not the right fit for us."
