France can confirm their place atop Group D today with only a point against a Tunisia team on the verge of an exit from this World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe has been a livewire for France so far in Qatar, scoring three goals, including two sensational efforts to beat Denmark almost singlehandedly.

Now Didier Deschamps’ defending world champions face a Tunisia side who are fighting for their World Cup lives, in a game at Education City Stadium.

Tunisia lost 1-0 to a Mitchell Duke goal when they played Australia last time out, following a goalless draw in their opening game, so only a win would keep their knockout stage hopes alive.

Tunisia XI: Dahmen; Kechrida, Talbi, Meriah, Ghandri, Maaloul; Skhiri, Laidouni, Ben Romdhane, Ben Slimane; Khazri.

Tunisia vs France prediction

The way Mbappe is playing, coupled with the mature performances of youthful midfield duo Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga, means France should cruise to victory in this one.

Deschamps may be tempted to make a couple of changes to keep his squad fresh for the knockout stages. But even then, they ought to be too strong for Tunisia – who haven’t scored a single goal in the tournament yet – and should seal victory by two or three goals.

Les Bleus look like a side to be feared later in the competition, and decent bets to retain their 2018 crown.

Standard Sport predicts: 3-0 France
