Leicester City right-back Brandon Cover is heading back to League Two after sealing a loan switch to Fleetwood Town.

Cover impressed at Port Vale in the first half of the season, but with injured players returning for the Staffordshire club, the 21-year-old’s game-time looked set to reduce in the second half of the campaign. That led to City recalling Cover earlier this month.

But now he’s returning to the fourth tier. He’s secured a switch to Fleetwood until the end of the season. They sit 12th in the division currently, nine points off the play-offs.

Cover made his senior City debut under Enzo Maresca last season, but has been given the opportunity for more regular game-time this term. While coming up through the ranks at City as a defensive midfielder, he has been playing as right-back more recently, and operated as a wing-back for Port Vale.

He becomes the second loan exit of the day at City, with fellow defender Ben Grist joining Worksop Town until the end of the season. It will be 20-year-old Grist’s first taste of senior football as he tries to help Worksop to promotion to the National League North.

Further loans are possible for City prospects before Monday night’s transfer deadline. Will Alves is expected to move to Cardiff in the Championship for his first spell away from City.
