Newcastle United are unlikely to bring a new face into the squad this January - but the sale of two more stars this month may change the approach on Tyneside. Miguel Almiron is set to return to the MLS and Atlanta United - the side he joined Newcastle from - but even with a reported £11 million fee being agreed, it's understood the Magpies won't race to spend that in the remaining days of the window.

However, should Newcastle manage to sell Lloyd Kelly, who has attracted interest from Juventus and Fenerbahce, as well as Odysseas Vlachodimos, there is a belief that Newcastle would move to bring at least one new face in.

Speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Newcastle United Editor Aaron Stokes spoke about his understanding of what the remainder of the window holds.

“The word coming out of Newcastle has been pretty consistent for the last month to six weeks," Stokes said. "They don't think they're going to do anything in terms of incomings and that's regardless of Miguel Almiron going or not, which obviously isn't what fans to hear.

"We obviously talked last week on this very episode, didn't we, and said it's unthinkable for them to not replace Miggy, but they don't want to be left in that situation that they were last summer where they had to sell players at the last minute.

"We know that if they had went and signed Marc Guehi in the summer, they would have had to sell one or two to make that deal work. I think as we stand here with what, a week to go until the deadline, I think unless Miguel Almiron, Lloyd Kelly and potentially Odysseus Vlachodimos go, I would be surprised if Newcastle did anything.

"I think it would take them three really to actually say, 'right, we need to bring someone in.'"

Other potential exits could see Matt Targett move to Leeds United - with the West Yorkshire side credited with interest in the 29-year-old, meanwhile Everton are said to hold an interest in midfielder Sean Longstaff. Time, of course, is against Newcastle in terms of agreeing to any further exits on top of Almiron but also it would be a race against the deadline to bring new arrivals in.

Stokes believes that there could 'one or two,' who follow Almiron out of St James' Park this month.

“I think potentially [there will be] some more outgoings. There's been interest in Vlachodimos but it depends whether he wants to go. Interestingly, it looks like Juventus may have moved on from Lloyd Kelly. They've done a deal for Chelsea left back Renato Veiga, and they're also pushing to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from West Ham on loan.

"That would essentially negate the need to sign Lloyd Kelly. He could potentially stay, which is what Eddie Howe wants. Then apart from that, you maybe get a few of the youngsters out.

Does Alfie Harrison go out on loan? They're potentially going to weigh up a loan deal for Garang Kuol, remember him? So yeah, very much outgoings on the agenda at the minute but as Eddie Howe keeps saying, never saying never on Incomings."
