Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will offer a full injury update during his press conference later today ahead of facing Lille in the Champions League. But the Reds will likely be without Diogo Jota after he missed training.

The Portugal striker was a notable absentee as Liverpool's players were put through their paces in front of the world's media in Kirkby, as is standard before UEFA fixtures. But no others aside from Joe Gomez, who was not expected to be involved — were missing with the full Reds roster in attendance.

A draw will be sufficient for Liverpool to progress to the last-16 of the Champions League without the need for a play-off and with a group match to spare. Here's what we spotted during the open training session ahead of the game.

Liverpool injury latest including Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota was absent despite Slot suggesting he would be back soon when he gave his last update on Friday. There was even a suggestion then that he could play against Brentford, but he missed out there. Hopefully he won't be missing for too long, with Liverpool needing his clinical finishing ability in the final third.

The only other player missing at the moment is Gomez, who has been out since he limped off against West Ham in the final match of 2024. It is not clear yet when he might return but Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah are all fit in the meantime, at least for now.

Chance for Arne Slot to freshen things up

With Liverpool needing just a point from this game to secure a place in the last-16 with a match remaining, Slot could make changes to his line-up to give a rest to some key players including Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch. Players like Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Federico Chiesa should be in strong contention to come in from the start.

Gravenberch doesn't need to be risked when there is Wataru Endo to select while Quansah should come in to protect Konate, who has only just come back from one injury and has proven to be prone to issues in the past. With almost nothing riding on the match, it should be treated as an ideal — and rare — chance for rotation.

The two-goal Liverpool hero at the weekend will surely get the chance to start this match. He is never likely to nail down the number nine berth when everyone is fit but with Jota missing, the Uruguayan should get the opportunity to build on his match-winning goals.

If Slot doesn't play him here, that wouldn't send the right message. Luis Diaz could do with another go on the left wing and Cody Gakpo has played a lot recently, so it would be no bad thing for him to get a breather.

It is a huge advantage for Liverpool to be in such a strong position in Europe with the final two games still to play. Slot needs to make the most of that chance by giving some underused players some time on the field.
