The two signings Aston Villa want in January transfer window
Aston Villa will resume their pursuit of two signings now the January transfer window is open for business.
A versatile attacking midfielder and right-sided defender were targeted in the summer, but Villa could not get either deal over the line. Now, according to Sky Sports, they will try again to strengthen those positions ahead of the Champions League knockout rounds and a push to qualify for Europe again.
An attacking midfielder who can play wide is wanted. Joao Felix was targeted in the summer before he moved to Chelsea, while Villa have been attributed with interest in Villarreal’s Alex Baena over recent weeks.

Any arrival in those forward areas could signal a potential departure for Jaden Philogene. He’s made just four starts for the club since his return in the summer.
A right-back who can also play in the heart of the defence would be a welcome addition too. Matty Cash remains Villa’s only recognised senior right-back, with Ezri Konsa and 20-year-old Lamare Bogarde having to fill in during the Poland international’s games out with injury or suspension this term.
If they can play at centre-back, that would be a bonus. Not only are there continued doubts over the future of Diego Carlos, but Pau Torres may now be out injured.
Other business this month will see new loan clubs found for Louie Barry and Lewis Dobbin. It has already been announced that Barry will return from League One side Stockport, with the likelihood he will be sent to a Championship club. Dobbin is set to come back from West Brom too.
