Two Wales players withdrawn from team 90 minutes before Italy Six Nations match

Wales lock Dafydd Jenkins and full-back Liam Williams have been ruled out of today's Six Nations game against Italy.

Williams has been nursing a knee injury since the opening round defeat to France, where Wales lost 43-0.

Warren Gatland revealed in his post-match interview that if Owen Watkin hadn't pick up his injury, Williams would have been taken off in last week.

WalesOnline reported on Friday that 93-cap Williams was a major doubt, revealing that his knee had swollen up again. He had been named to start against the Azzurri, but now Scarlets man Blair Murray will replace him at 15.

The bigger shock on Saturday afternoon came as Exeter second row Jenkins withdrew with illness. He is replaced in the starting XV by Freddie Thomas, with Teddy Williams coming on to the bench

New Zealand-born Murray usually plays on the wing, but was deployed at full-back in the autumn defeat to South Africa. He trained at in this position in Rome on Friday.

Josh Hathaway comes on to the replacements bench for cover, with Josh Adams and Tom Rogers retaining their places in the back three.
