Boxing legend Tyson Fury will still make a pretty penny outside the ring after announcing his retirement from boxing.

The Gypsy King made the bombshell announcement after a second defeat to Oleksandyr Usyk last month. The Brit heavyweight lost on a point decision but was adamant he should have won the fight when speaking to the world media afterwards. The twice heavyweight world champion was tipped, and in some corners urged, to set up a fight with Anthony Joshua before making his next move.

But on Monday, Fury took to social media to share his decision: "Hi everybody. I'm gonna make this short and sweet. I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing. It's been a blast. I've loved every single minute of it, and I'm gonna end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody. See you on the other side. Get up!"

Despite his retirement announcement, Fury made around 70 per cent of the £116million purse for Usyk v Fury 2. And the big heavyweight will also be raking it in as her sleeps. According to www.olbg.com, he can rely on healthy earnings of £6.6m per year outside of it. Fury’s highest-earning ventures include him being the sole director of ‘Tyson Fury Ltd’, as well as real estate company ‘Greenwaybalmoral Ltd’; the latter has recently been in the news with reports of a potential shutdown. Fury also tops up his earnings with various sponsorships, such as WOW Hydrate, and his family life was the subject of a Netflix documentary, 'At Home with the Furys'.

Would-be opponent Joshua also earns the same amount outside the ring. But both of their overall wealth pales in comparison to former five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather. Known as 'Money', Mayweather's net worth is estimated to be a whopping £327m by Celebritynetworth.com, more than double that of Fury's £130m.

Mayweather reportedly pocketed £205m for his highly-anticipated fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2015. NBA star Lebron James is the top 'off-field' earner with £66m, while Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are close behind with £57m and £49m respectively.
