UEFA has awarded just one spot in their Champions League team of the week to a Liverpool player despite Arne Slot's side pulling off one of the best smash and grab results in recent memory. For the most part, the Reds had to ride their luck in the French capital as PSG pushed for a goal that would have relieved pressure going into the second leg.

They thought they might have managed that when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curled home a superb effort only for UEFA's semi-automated offside technology to rule it out by the finest of margins. Ibrahima Konate then avoided a red card in controversial circumstances despite appearing to have barged Bradley Barcola to the ground.

VAR checked the decision and decided that there were no grounds to step in and overrule the on-field decision. Liverpool would take advantage of this good fortune late on as Darwin Nunez laid the ball off for substitute Harvey Elliott to strike home the winner for the away side.

Despite Elliott being the hero for Liverpool, scoring with his side's only shot on target in the game, it was Alisson Becker who received the rightful plaudits from UEFA. The Brazilian was sensational in goal as he faced a total of 27 shots, saving nine to keep his team in the contest.

As such, he was named in the Champions League team of the week which rewarded him for his clearly monumental effort. After the match, Alisson admitted that it was perhaps one of his best performances.

"Probably of my life," he responded when asked if that was his best performance of the season. "The manager told us how hard it would be and we had to be ready to suffer.

"They have so much quality. We gave away so many chances but in the end with Harvey coming in and scoring the goal, it's unbelievable.

"A great story. A great night."

UEFA's Champions League team of the week: Alisson (Liverpool); Timber (Arsenal), Pavard (Inter Milan), Can (Borussia Dortmund), De Cuyper (Club Brugge); Odegaard (Arsenal), Pedri (Barcelona), Rogers (Aston Villa); Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Kane (Bayern Munich), Raphinha (Barcelona)
