The UFC are trying "everything in their power" to sanction a fight between heavyweight champions Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, according to the Brit's father.

American Jones marked his long-awaited return to the octagon by making a first successful defence of his heavyweight title by defeating Stipe Miocic via KO in the third round at New York City's Madison Square Garden on November 17.

In the build-up to the fight with Miocic, the 37-year-old (22-0-1) admitted he would need to be paid "F*** you money" by the UFC to consider agreeing to an undisputed bout with Aspinall.

Now, though, Andy Aspinall, the father and coach of Tom believes UFC chiefs Dana White and Hunter Campbell are ready to exhaust all avenues to make a bout happen in Las Vegas.

Speaking to the combat sport publication Uncrowned, Andy said: "I think it will happen in [Las] Vegas. It will happen in the place where they’ll make the most money, won’t it? That’s my opinion."

Tom Aspinall was cage-side at MSG for the bout in November as he was the designated back-up fighter for the bout, and admitted after the contest that he had held positive talks with White and Campbell over a future contest with Jones.

However, Andy Aspinall believes heavyweight champion Jones, who has the most title fight wins in UFC history and admitted he had contemplated retirement ahead of his fight with Miocic, is wary of how damaging a loss to the Brit could be for his legacy.

“I think Jon doesn’t know if he wants the fight or not," added Andy Aspinall. "I think he wants the fight to beat Tom, but he also doesn’t want to take that risk because he could lose.

"He’s not afraid to fight anyone, I’m sure, but I don’t think he wants to lose his unbeaten record. I’m sure that right now he doesn’t know if he’s going to do it and it will depend on the amount of money that they’re offering."
