UK national media rates Curtis Jones' England debut as 'joyous' Liverpool star shines
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones made his first appearance for England at senior level against Greece — and he scored a brilliant goal to cap off another landmark in his career. Flicking the ball into the far corner after being teed up by Morgan Gibbs-White, it was a great piece of skill.
Jones has been in brilliant form recently for his club and thoroughly deserved his chance to show what he can do for the national team — and now the challenge is to ensure that continues. We've rounded up what the UK national media had to say about Jones' performance as he showcased his talent to a partially new audience.
Daily Mail - 7.5 rating shows promise: "Very encouraging debut. Brave in getting on ball and used it well. Wriggled out of a few tight situations and capped it all with clever, flicked goal."

BBC - No doubt Jones belongs at this level: "Liverpool's 23-year-old midfielder Jones provided the high point of the night seven minutes from time, capping a top-class first senior appearance in joyous style.
"He had already shown rare confidence in possession when he produced a memorable, magical moment, audaciously flicking a Gibbs-White cross past Odysseas Vlachodimos with the inside of his right heel. If there was any evidence needed as to whether Jones feels comfortable at this level, then that provided it."
Daily Mirror - Jones completes his hat-trick: "It has been a whirlwind last four weeks for Jones, after the Liverpool star became a father for the first time on October 13 before scoring the winner in his club's 2-1 win over Chelsea seven days later. Indeed, the midfielder completed the hat-trick by capping off his Three Lions debut with a remarkable goal on Thursday night."
The Times - Jones' carefree and confident attitude summed up: "It was a moment so carefree and impudent you forgot this was a crunch game, in a difficult arena, and England were supposed to be playing safe and protecting their precious 2-0 lead. It was a moment of alternative thinking — and if Lee Carsley has represented one thing in his short reign it is that."
The Telegraph - Jones repays Carsley faith: "Another huge call to give his debut in must-win match – and he repaid the faith with a back-heeled finish for his goal. Played a bit deeper than his Liverpool role but he did well, keeping the ball moving and holding possession. 8/10."
Liverpool.com says: Jones is a really talented player who has taken some time to find some consistency, but that now appears to have arrived. Something has happened since he became a father a few weeks ago and he can't stop playing well since! Liverpool will benefit mostly from that, but Jones should be eyeing a place in the starting XI for his national team before the next World Cup.
