Ukraine vs Belgium LIVE! Euro 2024 result, match stream and latest updates today
Belgium set up a blockbuster last-16 clash with France as Ukraine suffered a group-stage exit after a 0-0 draw in Stuttgart. All four Group E sides went into the final matches on three points, and two draws to conclude the action meant all finished on four points, the first time that has happened at a European Championship.
Romelu Lukaku had an early effort saved when played in behind, while Artem Dovbyk had a couple of dangerous moments for Ukraine and Ruslan Malinovskyi very nearly scored straight from a corner late on. Malinovskyi had a shot charged down in the closing minutes, before Georgiy Sudakov fired straight at the goalkeeper in stoppage-time. In truth, though, it was a game low on quality, with Ukraine unable to find the goal that would have sent them through and Belgium crashing out.
Instead, Romania topped the group on goals scored, ahead of Belgium, who know face a nightmare last-16 assignment. Slovakia edged through as one of the best third-placed teams, with Ukraine’s goal difference leaving them bottom.

Back underway!
18:06 , Matt Verri
Up and running again in Stuttgart!
18:05 , Matt Verri
If Romania beat Slovakia, Ukraine will be heading through, even if they fall to a narrow defeat here.
Big problems if that match finishes level though - would leave Ukraine needing to beat Belgium.
We’re heading for a nervy 45 minutes!
First-half stats
17:54 , Matt Verri
Belgium have had 60% of possession, but they have done very, very little with it.
Four shots, two on target but nothing really to trouble Trubin too much.
Ukraine have had seven efforts, most of those coming after good work from the front two on the counter.
HT: Ukraine 0-0 Belgium

Sudakov makes the wrong decision, going for goal from a very tight angle and from miles out. Comfortable save.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium

42 mins: What had Yaremchuk not passed?!
He’s in on goal in the area, has to get the shot away but instead tries to put it on a plate for Dovbyk. Overhit and out of play.
What a massive chance.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium

41 mins: De Bruyne with another chance from a free-kick out wide, this one is put into the box.
Not much pace on it though, and cleared. Belgium really aren’t clicking.

Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:35 , Matt Verri

Although he’s strolled over to the refere first, gesturing towards the crowd. De Bruyne had a laser pointed in his face.
The Man City man tries to surprise the goalkeeper and fires it towards the near post. Just wide.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:32 , Matt Verri
30 mins: Belgium very patient, they’re struggling to play their way through the yellow shirts.
Best bet seems to be giving it to Doku and getting out of his way.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:30 , Matt Verri
27 mins: Really good header from Tymchyk at the back post, as De Bruyne dinks a header towards Lukaku.
Ukraine swiftly forward on the counter, and it’s a real chance as Dovbyk cuts onto his right foot in the box.
And he then waits, and waits, and waits, and waits. Sudakov eventually blasts over when it’s played back.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:27 , Matt Verri
25 mins: We’ve had our first goal of the evening in Group E.
Slovakia have taken the lead against Romania, and will top the group as it stands.

High, wide. Not an ideal combination.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium

19 mins: Doku drops to the pick the ball up from Theate, who then fires the ball in behind. Not on the same page, to put it mildly.
De Bruyne then tries to dink a ball over the top to Trossard, it’s just about cut out. Arsenal man has barely had a kick.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:19 , Matt Verri
17 mins: Poor Tymchyk is having a miserable time up against Doku. Can’t stick with him.
Castagne loses it here though and Ukraine can break. Loose pass and they have to turn all the way back.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:16 , Matt Verri
14 mins: De Bruyne again tries to set Lukaku free, ball deflected away for a corner instead. Belgium very much on top.
In-swinger from De Bruyne... and he’ll get another chance as it’s nodded behind.
Deep this time, four or five players topple over at the back post and it’s straight out.
Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:12 , Matt Verri

Ukraine 0-0 Belgium
17:04 , Matt Verri
2 mins: Ukraine win a corner in the opening seconds, but it’s taken short and comes to nothing.
They are playing a back five this evening, but it’s a pretty front-footed start.
KICK-OFF!
17:02 , Matt Verri
We’re up and running!
17:00 , Matt Verri
Anthems done, Ukrainian players once again all have flags draped over them.
Anthony Taylor taking charge of this one. I’m sure there will be no controversy at all over the next 90 minutes, no VAR issues. None at all.
Here we go...
16:55 , Matt Verri
Teams are in the tunnel in Stuttgart.
Reminder that a point will be enough for Belgium to go through, Ukraine might need all three, depending on the result between Slovakia and Romania.
All four teams on all three points. Anyone could still finish, anyone could finish bottom!
Ten-minute warning!
16:49 , Matt Verri
Kick-off very nearly upon us.
Warm-ups done, teams have gone back inside to the dressing room in Stuttgart.
Belgium have insisted they will go for the win, Ukraine need a result... it’s set up to be entertaining.
Will Lukaku finally have a goal allowed to stand?
16:40 , Matt Verri
Two appearances, three goals ruled out. Tough tournament for Romelu Lukaku so far.
He is yet to get off the mark, despite having the ball in the net more than any other player at the tournament.
Would guess he isn’t a huge fan of VAR.
Mudryk not in the squad
16:27 , Matt Verri
The team sheet posted online by Ukraine had Mykhailo Mudryk on the bench, but it’s being reported that he is in fact not in the squad.
Mudryk is in Stuttgart and cheering on his team-mates, but is not going to be involved. Big, big blow.
Strap yourselves in!
16:21 , Matt Verri
Get ready for an evening of ‘as it stands’ tables.
Every goal in these final two matches will be crucial - everything is still in play for all four teams.
The good news is, it can’t be worse than the dross served up by Group C.

Huge calls from Ukraine!
16:12
Well then - some big team news for Ukraine.
Mudryk and Zinchenko both drop to the bench, not sure anyone saw that coming! Mykolenko fit to start, and Yaremchuk also comes into the side.
Less surprising from Belgium, as Trossard makes his return to the starting lineup as expected.

Not quite the bright blue skies we’ve seen in recent days, but it’s still a nice enough afternoon in Cologne.
After last night’s two woeful matches in Group C, we need some entertainment to get things back on track.

Tedesco: We are playing to win
15:44 , Matt Verri
Belgium boss Domenico Tedesco has insisted his side will not be playing for a draw, even though that would send them through to the last-16.
He is adamant the focus is on picking up all three points, even if he will at some point want to know what is happening between Slovakia and Romania.
"We are going out to win the game,” Tedesco said.
“We can’t start to calculate or speculate, we want to win this game. In the last seven minutes of the game maybe we know what we want to do to keep a result but from the beginning there is no issue, we go to win,"
"Not smart from our side not to know [about the other game] but not from the beginning.
“We have to focus on our game and then the result is coming automatically.”
Ukraine still have hope...
15:36 , Matt Verri
Ukraine’s 3-0 defeat to Romania was one of the shocks of the early days of Euro 2024.
They were really poor that day and then fell behind last time out against Slovakia, but got themselves together and picked up a vital victory, as Roman Yaremchuk scored a lovely winner.
It’s ensured Ukraine still have their Euros fate in their own hands.
Disastrous start for Belgium...
15:27
Fair to say Belgium’s tournament didn’t get off to a flyer.
A shock defeat to Slovakia immediately put them on the back-foot at Euro 2024, even if they were pretty unlucky.
Romelu Lukaku had two goals disallowed, as Belgium did everything but score.
Group E permutations
15:15 , Matt Verri
Belgium will be through to the last-16 in the top two if they pick up at least a point here.
However, should they be beaten and Romania either draw or beat Slovakia in the other Group E match, Belgium will be out.
As for Ukraine, a win would send them safely through, while a point would be enough to go through as one of the best-third placed teams as long as Slovakia and Romania do not draw.
If both matches finish level and all the teams are on four points... well we’ll deal with that later if necessary. It would not be good news for Ukraine, though.
Standard Sport prediction
15:07
Both teams have recovered from shocks by winning their second game at the Euros but another defeat will likely send them home.
Belgium are the favourites, but have not shown enough so far to suggest it will be a comfortable evening. Expect drama.
Belgium to win, 2-1.
Belgium team news
14:58 , Matt Verri
Belgium, meanwhile, will be missing forward Dodi Lukebakio due to suspension following his yellow card in the win over Romania.
That could mean a recall to the starting lineup for Leandro Trossard, who was dropped to the bench for the last bench.
Romelu Lukaku will again lead the line as he looks for his first goal of the tournament, having had three ruled out.
Belgium predicted XI: Casteels; Castagne, Faes, Vertonghen, Theate; Tielemans, Onana, De Bruyne; Doku, Lukaku, Trossard
Ukraine team news
14:48 , Matt Verri
Ukrainian boss Serhiy Rebrov will be aiming to have Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko fit to start for the first time at the tournament, having missed the opening two games due to a foot injury.
That would allow Oleksandr Zinchenko to move into midfield.
Roman Yaremchuk is also pushing for a start after scoring a late winner against Slovakia last time out.
Predicted Ukraine XI: Trubin; Tymchyk, Zabarnyi, Svatok, Matviyenko, Mykolenko; Tsygankov, Shaparenko, Brazhko, Mudryk; Yaremchuk
