Unai Emery is hopeful he can name Jacob Ramsey in his Aston Villa squad to face Brighton on Monday.

The 23-year-old hasn't featured for seven weeks since Villa's 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. He suffered a hamstring injury at the end of the first half of the match and was replaced by John McGinn.

"He is close to being in the squad and to be available to play maybe on Monday," Emery said about Ramsey after Villa's defeat against Newcastle United on Boxing Day. "We are resting tomorrow [Friday] and then Saturday and Sunday we will prepare for Monday. He did the last training session normally with the team and hopefully he will be in the squad for Monday."

Villa were without Diego Carlos in the win over Man City last weekend, but he returned to the squad on Thursday. Leon Bailey, meanwhile, came off the bench at St. James' Park to make his first appearance since picking up a small hamstring problem in the win over Southampton earlier this month.

Jhon Duran will be suspended for the match against Brighton and the club's following two matches after receiving a red card in the defeat at Newcastle. Villa appealed to overturn the striker's three-match ban, but were unsuccessful.

Matty Cash will also miss the match through suspension after collecting his fifth booking of the league campaign at St. James' Park.
