Unai Emery confirms Aston Villa appeal stance after Jhon Duran red card vs Newcastle
Unai Emery has confirmed Aston Villa will appeal Jhon Duran's three-match ban after he received a red card in the defeat to Newcastle United this afternoon.
The striker was given his marching orders for violent conduct after being adjudged to have stamped down on Fabian Schar following a tackle from the Newcastle centre-back. Referee Anthony Taylor brandished the red card and VAR Graham Scott agreed with the on-field decision.
Newcastle were already 1-0 up at the time after Anthony Gordon opened the scoring inside the second minute. Alexander Isak then doubled the host's advantage before Joelinton added a third late on.

Asked if Villa will appeal the red card, Emery said: "Of course. Three matches because of this red card is hard to accept. You can watch the video, the foot was not clear.
"Three matches now out, maybe it is because it is Jhon Duran. We are trying to teach him and get of him as well a good way and he is doing this effort. He is doing the way we are trying to get of him. The referees have to be fair as well, taking time with the decision."
Emery continued: "Yes, it is a reputation. Clearly. He was saying so quick: ‘Sorry, sorry’. He had no intention in that action to kick him [Schar]."
Villa will host Brighton on Monday before Leicester City head to Villa Park next Saturday. Then, after playing West Ham at home in the FA Cup, trips to Everton and Arsenal await in January.
