Unai Emery believes there is still a huge amount of potential which Marcus Rashford can exploit after joining Aston Villa on loan.

The 27-year-old could make his debut for Villa on Sunday in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Tottenham Hotspur after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

"I’m very happy with the window we did and I’m very happy with him," Emery said of Rashford. "The conversation I had with him was a very normal conversation, speaking about football. I only want the best football from him.

"I think his potential is still being a huge potential to exploit. I don’t want to know the reason he is leaving from Manchester, but I am very happy keeping him here and I am very happy to help him recover his performances.

"My challenge with him is a huge challenge. His challenge with us is exciting. I am very happy. The club worked very well in the window. We did more than our wishes, for different circumstances.

"In defence we had some players injured and it’s important how we can manage the squad. There was very good work from Monchi, Damian, Nassef and Wes Edens. The window in January is difficult and now we have the challenge for the rest of the season.

"We are in the league not in a position where we can feel comfortable, we have to improve and get better performances in the league."

Asked if he wants to sign Rashford permanently in the summer, Emery said: "Today he trained fantastic and Sunday we have a match. We are going to enjoy each step forward and focus on it. The future is only building with the present. If we are trying to get the future before the present, that is impossible. We are going to crash if we do it."
