Marcus Rashford has completed his initial loan move to Aston Villa, ending the speculation over the Manchester United and England star's future - and some Villa fans in the Birmingham Live comments section can't wait to see how manager Unai Emery deploys their new forward.

Villa moved quickly to secure Rashford in the wake of Jhon Duran's £64million switch to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr. Villa will pay the lion's share of his considerable wages with some performance incentives built in to the deal, and have a £40million option in the summer should he impress at Villa Park.

Rashford's options for a winter move have been severely limited, after saying that he wanted to leave for a "new challenge" in December last year, with few clubs able to match his and Manchester United's demands. Villa offer Champions League football at an upwardly mobile club, and it's hoped that he will be able to help secure European football next season too.

Writing on Instagram, Rashford said: "I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen. I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision - as I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the managers' ambitions.

"I just want to play football - and I'm excited to get started. I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season."

A big arrival at Villa Park has excited some fans. Reader Smashed says: "A terrific signing of a very-high profile and talented player, there's no doubting his ability on the pitch, and despite his issues at Man Utd this is a new chapter for him and he should be welcomed by all and judged likewise.

"This is just one of a few incredible signings this window and it shows the club's ambition to get this club back to the very top of English and European football, we still have some way to go and there will be short-falls on the recruitment side of things along the way due to financial restrictions, along with the usual hiccups on the pitch, but there's no denying that Villa are on their way in what can only be described as a fantastic journey."

Commenter John071961 writes: "I am buzzing at the thought of Rashford wearing a Villa shirt. On his day, he is a real world beater and with Emery's guidance and input, together with the fact that he has a point to prove, I really think that we will go on and re-qualify for Champions League."

Chosen in 1957 says: "Just look at his goal-to-game record and it's clear what a great striker he is. Marcus should have left United well over a year ago and he's had such a frustrating time recently. This is his and our chance to reaffirm his brilliant ability to score and assist regularly, and to produce the vital point winners that will move us up the table in February."

Ansellsvillaman writes: "As I’ve said before, unplayable on his day, scored a few against us, but just look at the managers he's had of late. The latest is heading to the Championship. Unai and Rashford could be the perfect fit."

Crazycat1 says: "Regardless of what some fans think about Rashford, we have him on loan until the end of the season and we should ALL back him, if he feels the connection from us fans we just might get the old Rashford back.”

Others are more reserved about Rashford's hoped impact on Villa's season, like Birminghamisclaretandblue: "If this doesn't work out then the problem is Marcus. I think Unai will get him back to his best, and back into the England squad. My only concern is the massive wage impacting the rest of the dressing room, but playing wise could win us a cup. Welcome to the family Marcus."

Villajack2 writes: "Of all the love and admiration I have for Unai, I really don't like the moves we make for forwards. Rashford, Joao Felix, [Marco] Asensio, are not the sort of players we need. We need working men who can play 45-plus games a season.

"I'd prefer we were in for [Bryan] Mbeumo, [Antoine] Semenyo or [Matheus] Cunha. Much better to stump up for these than to take such a risk on players who don't play for their current club. I can't see the logic at all. I can see this being like [Philippe] Coutinho. He'll come in, work hard for a few months, get a big contract from the Holt End season ticket revenue then fall away, again. I pray this is a loan that ends without a purchase."
