'Underestimated' - Arne Slot has seen change in Liverpool star who 'doesn't always get the credit'
Arne Slot has admitted he thinks Dominik Szoboszlai is ‘underestimated’ after seeing the Hungarian open the scoring in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town. The 24-year-old found the bottom corner with a smart left-footed finish after being played in by Ibrahima Konate after only 11 minutes at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah doubled the Reds’ lead, before goals in each half from Cody Gakpo wrapped up the victory and maintained Liverpool’s six-point lead at the top of the table.
Szoboszlai has now scored four goals in all competitions so far this season, while his effort against the Tractor Boys was his third Premier League strike of the campaign - equalling his total domestic haul in his maiden season on Merseyside.

Slot praised the Hungarian after the final whistle as he stressed how important he was to his side and shared his delight at Szoboszlai getting the belated credit he deserves. However, he also admitted he does not think the 24-year-old would have even taken the shot earlier in his Anfield reign.
“I think that’s the development the team is in,” Slot said. “Because when we played Brentford, we had 37 shots - a record in the Premier League for an away team - so because he is involved in that team, he will probably take a few shots then as well.
“So it is us, our players behind the ball, bringing our attacking players even more into promising positions than we did at the start of the season.
“If you zoom in on Dom, I think at the beginning of the season, he would have played the ball to Mo. Which was most of the time a very good choice because Mo can definitely score a goal as well!
“Now he decided to go for himself and score the goal himself. Nice for him because he is, in my opinion, a little bit underestimated. Not by me, but he doesn’t always get the credit for the fact that he is very important for this team because his work-rate is unbelievable.
“He just keeps on running at the highest intensity and that is so important for a team that wants to compete for something.”
Meanwhile, Slot also hailed captain Virgil van Dijk as the Dutchman made his 300th Liverpool appearance in the win over Ipswich.
“He brings so many positives to this team, bringing the ball out from the back, defending, his composure,” he said. “He’s definitely a leader. As a manager I haven’t worked with a lot of players that can say they are a leader, but Virgil is definitely a leader.
“Not only on the pitch, but also on the training ground. The moment we start the training, he is the loudest one and always leads by example.
“He’s having a fantastic season but he’s already had seven or eight fantastic seasons over here.”
