U.S. Ski & Snowboard investigating allegations of harassment, racism against coach, Olympian

ZHANGJIAKOU, China — A former Olympian has leveled allegations of racist and sexist harassment against the head coach and a member of the United States snowboardcross team.

Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, a member of Team USA’s snowboard team from 2005-14 and an Olympian in 2010, charged that Peter Foley, snowboardcross coach since 1994, has “taken naked photos of female athletes for over a decade” and that Hagen Kearney, a current Olympian, used the n-word repeatedly and deliberately.

Chythlook-Sifsof leveled the accusations in an Instagram post on Sunday. “I cannot watch another Olympic Games without saying this publicly,” she wrote, tagging Kearney, Foley and the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team.

Outsports, a site focused on LGBT issues in sports, first reported that U.S. Ski & Snowboard has opened an investigation into Chythlook-Sifsof's allegations.

“U.S. Ski & Snowboard has been made aware of the recent allegations,” U.S. Ski & Snowboard said in a statement to Yahoo Sports. “We take these allegations very seriously and the allegations are being investigated.”

U.S. Ski & Snowboard also said "the concerns regarding Hagen [Kearney] were dealt with at the time and appropriate action was taken."

Yahoo Sports has reached out to Chythlook-Sifsof for further comment.

Kearney, a two-time Olympian, finished 17th in men’s snowboardcross earlier this week. He is not among the riders selected to participate in Saturday’s mixed team event. That event is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET Friday, 10 a.m. in Beijing.
