Tottenham head to Anfield on Thursday night (8pm) with the advantage in their Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Liverpool. A late strike from Lucas Bergvall at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Spurs secure a 1-0 victory in the first leg nearly one month ago.

Since that clash, both teams have enjoyed varying fortunes - with Spurs losing three consecutive Premier League games before then beating Brentford this past weekend. Liverpool, meanwhile, have suffered just one defeat with that coming away at PSV in the Champions League where Arne Slot picked a heavily-rotated line-up.

Whoever advances to the final at Wembley will meet Newcastle following their 4-0 aggregate win over Arsenal. Goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon handed Eddie Howe's side a comfortable victory and they will be looking to avenge defeat in the final of this competition two years ago.

The Magpies scored four without reply over both legs, but it could have easily been five. Early into that clash at St. James' Park, Alexander Isak thumped in a ferocious effort, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Despite not being flagged in real time, VAR - which is in use for the semi-finals - intervened and overturned the decision.

The team of officials for Tottenham and Liverpool's second leg consists of referee Craig Pawson, assistant referees Simon Bennett and Daniel Robathan, along with fourth official Darren Bond. As for those operating the technology, Michael Salisbury will be in charge and he will be assisted by James Mainwaring.

It must also be mentioned that second leg, just like the first, will employ first-of-its-kind measures for the officials. They will be allowed to announce any VAR decisions to supporters watching inside the stadium via the tannoy. To disallow Isak's goal, Simon Hooper confirmed the final decision to those in the stadium.

He said: "After review, the goal-scorer, Newcastle's number 14, is in an offside position. The restart is indirect free-kick for offside.

That was also used in the first leg of the other semi-final between Tottenham and Liverpool. Referee Stuart Attwell said: "After a review, Dominic Solanke was in an offside position in the build-up to the goal. Final decision is offside."
