'Some variation' - Carlisle United boss on plans for short-term trio
Mike Williamson admits there is some “variation” in his intentions regarding Carlisle United’s three players whose deals are almost up.
The Blues are facing decisions on the future of Kadeem Harris, Tyler Burey and Ben Williams this month.
It has not been confirmed exactly when the trio’s short-term contracts are officially up, though it has been said that Harris is at least with United for most of January.
Head coach Williamson, who is looking to reshape his squad this month, suggested that while negotiations were ongoing, he may not look to retain all three players.
Asked by the News & Star about the expiry periods for Harris, Burey and Williams, the Blues boss said: “There are various points in January.
“We're in the negotiations and there's plenty of things going on.
“The work going on behind the scenes is relentless. Hopefully we can come to an agreement soon. There's many things happening.”
Asked if he wanted to keep all three players or whether there was some variation regarding that, Williamson – speaking after the 3-2 defeat to Crewe Alexandra on New Year’s Day – said: “Yes, there is some variation.
“But at the minute, I just want to focus on the game, getting the boys recovered and a quick turnaround [for the trip to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday].”
United in particular are expected to attempt to keep Harris, who has scored in their last two games.
The former Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City man has made eight appearances since joining the Cumbrians in September.
Burey, Williamson’s first signing, returned from injury as a substitute in Wednesday’s defeat.
That was an 11th appearance of the campaign for the ex-Millwall man, who has mostly been deployed in the wing-back positions.
Left-sided Williams, meanwhile, has been limited to 11 appearances since joining Carlisle at the start of the season.
The former Barnsley and Cheltenham Town player missed several weeks with a knee injury while illness has sidelined him more recently.
United, meanwhile, are expected to be involved in more transfer activity soon, after yesterday making midfielder Elliot Embleton their second January signing.
