Arsenal's two natural centre-forward options, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, have scored a combined ten Premier League goals this season.

Eight other rival attackers have either matched or bettered that tally all on their own, and the Gunners have seen their forward options depreciate in recent matches. Havertz has been out with illness for the past two games.

But the big set-back for them is Bukayo Saka, who has been Arsenal's most productive player this term with nine goals and 13 assists across all competitions. The winger is out for another two months after requiring surgery on a damaged hamstring.

The Gunners have lacked potency at times this season and Saturday's 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion keeps them six points off leaders Liverpool, who drew 2-2 with Manchester United on Sunday. The Reds still have a game in hand, though, as they remain title favourites.

With January now here, scores of Arsenal supporters are baying for their club to sign another attacker to rekindle their title aspirations. Many have pointed to the centre-forward role as one that needs bolstering and there might well be some decent options on the radar.

Viktor Gyokeres

There were natural links between Viktor Gyokeres and United initially given Ruben Amorim's appointment at Old Trafford. However, their new head coach ruled out a January raid at Sporting CP and, besides, United do not have the funds available.

Arsenal registered a net spend of £17m this summer, so they might have more room to play with. Gyokeres has scored an impressive 30 goals in 28 matches so far this season - including a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City.

He would be a costly acquisition, though, with figures such as £83m being circulated. Recent reports, however, suggest Sporting might be willing to lower their price in the summer, if not mid-season.

Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha is one of the players to have scored the same amount of Premier League goals as Havertz and Jesus combined. Interest in the attacker this month is set to mount given this noble output amid Wolves' dismal season.

New boss Vitor Pereira is adamant on not allowing the 25-year-old to leave Molineux in January, and it does seem more likely that the summer provides a better opportunity to land him - unless Arsenal table an irresistible offer.

The caveat is that Cunha is not necessarily a natural centre-forward. In fact, he has mostly been played behind the striker at Wolves. So although he does possess the ability to lead the line, he might not be the exact type of profile supporters are envisaging for a new striker.

Igor Jesus

Things could get confusing - there are already three Gabriels (Martinelli, Jesus and Magalhaes) and the arrival of Igor would see the squad contain two players called Jesus! But joking aside, Igor Jesus has apparently caught the eye of those at Arsenal.

Actually, RTI Esporte says Arsenal have seen an initial bid knocked back for the Botafogo striker, who has scored eight goals and tallied five assists in 31 games for his Brazilian employers.

He previously had recorded 43 goals and 20 assists in 88 games for UAE outfit Shabab Al-Ahli, prior to his summer switch back to his homeland. He is thought to have a €100m (£83m) release clause in his contract.

Dusan Vlahovic

Vlahovic has been a name linked with Arsenal for several years, although perhaps his stock has somewhat dipped in recent times. The Serb was among Europe's hottest property in the 2021/22 season after firing in 29 goals across the campaign.

However, since then, he has failed to register a 20-goal season. Truthfully, it seems unlikely Arsenal will go for the 24-year-old Juventus star mid-season - although his 12 goals in 23 matches this term has reportedly prompted the Gunners to make initial enquiries.
