Viktor Gyokeres transfer 'agreement' as Man United face unexpected battle
Manchester United's hopes of finally signing Viktor Gyokeres have received a significant boost following an update on Sporting CP's stance on a possible deal.
Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim left the Portuguese side for United in November. Since moving from Coventry City in 2023, the Sweden international has scored 74 games in just 79 appearances.
United's struggles in the final third have become more apparent by the week this season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to hit form.

However, Amorim is likely to work with what he currently has due to United's compliance to stay on the right side of the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules.
A move in the summer is more likely and it appears that Sporting have all but accepted losing Gyokeres. Record Portugal have reported that the player and club have a gentlemen's agreement which will allow Gyokeres to leave the club for as little as between £58.6m and £62.8m.
Previously, it had been stated that Sporting would be allowed for less than his £83m release clause should he stay with the club until the end of the season. United are not alone, though, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich keeping tabs.
There are doubts over his ability to come to the Premier League and replicate his form in Portugal. However, current team-mate Maximiliano Arauji has praised the 26-year-old's prowess in front of goal, something that will reassure United's hierarchy.
"We know that with a striker like Viktor [Gyokeres], we will almost always score goals," he said after the Swedish striker scored the winner to knock rivals Porto out of the Portuguese League Cup this week.
