Celtic have identified Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo as a possible successor for Joe Hart.

Hoops transfer gurus are drawing up a list of potential targets this summer as current No1 Hart prepares to hang up the gloves at the end of the season. The Scottish champions have already been linked with a host of names including Liverpool back-up Caoimhin Kelleher and ex-Leciester City Premier League-winner Kasper Schmeichel.

Now, multiple reports suggest Finland international Sinisalo is on the Parkhead club's radar. The 22-year-old has earned rave reviews on loan with ex-Celts defender Gary Caldwell's Exeter City this season. The £3million-rated shotstopper hoovered up a number of Player of the Year awards after a standout campaign with the League One club.

Sinisalo also has experience in Scottish football, having racked up 29 appearances on loan at Ayr United in season 2020-21. Villa are keen to tie down the highly-rated goalie on a new deal as he enters the final 12 months of his contract. But he's well down the pecking order behind Argentine World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez, Swede Robin Olsen and Australian Joe Gauci.

That could see him depart this summer in search of a permanent new home and Celtic Park could be a possible destination. Brendan Rodgers is in the market for at least one new keeper, with Scott Bain still under contract for another two years. Third-choice Ben Siegrist has been deemed surplus to requirements and will be allowed to leave.
