Virgil van Dijk has revealed there is no significant update on his ongoing contract saga at Liverpool.

The center-back is one of three high-profile players whose current deals are close to expiring - along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold - and all of the trio are free to discuss terms with overseas clubs now their contracts have entered the final six months.

But there’s a feeling on Merseyside that Van Dijk will remain in situ next season and that terms can be agreed on a fresh deal. There’s no new information for now, though, the experienced defender revealed on Sunday after the 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

“I don’t think [there will be an update soon] but I am calm about it, like I said months ago,” he told Sky Sports. “We’ll see what happens in the future and at this point I have absolutely no update. It’s all about at the moment focusing, for me and the team, on Spurs [on Wednesday]. It will be a tough game again, but a good [Carabao Cup] semi-final.”

Van Dijk put in another assured display against United, making two important blocks to deny Rasmus Hojlund and Amad getting shots off on goal. The ex-Southampton man was frustrated by the dropped points as the Reds failed to capitalize on Arsenal’s slip-up the previous day, although in the end he was slightly relieved to take a point from the United encounter.

“It could have been a lot worse if we are absolutely honest with ourselves,” Van Dijk admitted to BBC Radio 5 Live. “They had a big chance in the end that could have been a lot worse than where we are now. I'm definitely disappointed with dropping points at home but it is what is and we have to move on and we will.

“We found the 2-1 and then it is about trying to manage the game and keep the ball for longer than three and four passes. We lost the ball too easily at times and then we were more open than we should have been. We're not perfect, we're still learning and we have to learn from this as well.”

Van Dijk also made his frustrations clear with Alexander-Arnold during the game after the right-back put in a woeful display at Anfield that resulted in him being replaced by Conor Bradley in the final stages. The Liverpool captain shouted at his team-mate after he gave away the ball in the opposition half, and was seen staring angrily at Alexander-Arnold on another occasion.
