Wakefield Trinity tie down rising York talent on new long-term deal
RISING York talent Oli Pratt has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract that will keep him at Wakefield Trinity until the end of 2028.
The 20-year-old’s new deal comes after a standout season for Daryl Powell’s treble-winners, which saw him score 18 tries in 34 appearances on his way to winning the Betfred Championship Young Player of the Year.
He was also among the scorers as Trinity lifted the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup at Wembley and triumphed against Toulouse in the Championship Grand Final.

Coming through the academy ranks at Wakefield, Pratt made his debut for the West Yorkshire club against Leigh Leopards in the Betfred Challenge Cup in 2023.
The former Heworth junior then returned to York to spend the latter part of the season with the Knights, where he notched six tries in 11 appearances as Andrew Henderson’s side claimed the unlikeliest of sixth-placed finishes on the final day of the season.
The Knights had hoped to welcome Pratt back to the club for 2024, but he instead committed to Wakefield, going on to enjoy a breakthrough season at Belle Vue.
And with Trinity having secured a return to the Betfred Super League for 2025, he will now look to establish himself as a regular in the top-flight.
“I’m pleased to have been offered the opportunity to stay at the club long term,” enthused the young outside back.
“I’ve loved my time here so far so when the opportunity came up to extend my stay with the club I was buzzing. I can’t wait to see how I develop over the next few years.”
Head coach Powell was pleased to see him pen a new deal, explaining: “Oli Pratt was one of our best players across all of last season.
“He is growing into a super confident player on and off the field and we think he will be a Super League outside back for many years.”
Recruitment manager Ste Mills added: “Oli had a great 2024 season, flourishing while playing consistent rugby led to him winning the Championship Young Player of the Year award.
“It was a key target for us to keep our homegrown talent at Wakefield Trinity and Oli was a big part of this plan.
“I am very excited to see where the next couple of years can take him with his game and we are delighted to be keeping him in the Red, White and Blue.”
