Former Wales centre Scott Williams will line up for Pontypool in their Super Rygbi Cymru clash with leaders Ebbw Vale.

The former Scarlets midfielder has been training with the Dragons this season in an effort to earn a short-term contract after leaving Parc y Scarlets last season.

The 34-year-old had been training alone after being released by the Scarlets, but was brought in by former Dragons head coach Dai Flanagan in October to train with the Gwent side.

It came as the Dragons allowed former captain Steff Hughes to leave after the first block of URC fixtures to take up an offer with American outfit DC Glory.

The Dragons have Aneurin Owen, Joe Westwood, Harry Wilson and Harri Ackerman as their current midfield options. However, should he offered a deal by new coach Filo Tiatia, Williams would offer experience for his younger team-mates to lean on.

And he'll get a chance to impress Tiatia as he takes part in the Gwent derby in Torfaen, with a post-Christmas return fixture pencilled in for the following Saturday at Eugene Cross Park.

The 58-cap centre has struggled with injuries in recent years, having played just twice in his final season in Llanelli. However, the experience of training alone at the start of this season is something he struggled with.

"It might sound weird but the toughest thing for me is just constantly training on my own, something I'm not used to," he told Scrum V back in September.

"Especially the days where it's hammering down with rain and wind, sitting on the side of the field in the car thinking, 'No one's going to know that I've gone and done this session'.

"So I just have to drag myself out of it."
