Gloucester's Welsh contingent shone as they returned to Premiership action with a 14-0 win over Harlequins.

The Cherry & Whites have been nicknamed Wales' 'fifth region' since the start of season after bringing on board half-backs Tomos Williams and Gareth Anscombe over the summer. They have joined three other Welsh internationals at Kingsholm, namely centre Max Llewellyn, wing Josh Hathaway and newly capped second row Freddie Thomas.

Williams in particular has impressed since moving across the border from Cardiff earlier this year, but all five were on song on Friday night as they secured a two-try victory against Quins. Both of those scores came in the first half, with Jack Clement adding to a Josh Hathaway opener that was truly made in Wales.

While the 21-year-old wing finished off the move, three of his Welsh teammates made it happen, with a pass from Anscombe - later dubbed 'ridiculous' by the official Premiership X page - setting him up for the try.

Just over 10 minutes into match, Gloucester had the put-in at the scrum over on the right flank and deep in the Quins 22. Off the back of it, Williams zipped the ball out to Player of the Match Seb Atkinson, who then popped the ball out the back to the Welsh scrum-half who had looped round to collect it.

From there, Williams looked certain to feed the ball to the onrushing Llewellyn, who hit a line across him at speed. But after dummying that pass, he instead found Anscombe, who opened up his body to launch a huge pass out to the left wing, where Hathaway was waiting in acres of space.

The massive swing out wide was delivered with pinpoint accuracy, with the Wales wing gratefully collecting and racing over the line to dot down. The score was met with a huge roar of approval inside Kingsholm, while fans at home were left suitably impressed as they watched replays of the slick move.

While Test rugby is, of course, a different beast to the club game, after another dismal year for Welsh rugby, many of those watching were understandably buoyed to see Wales internationals at the heart of the play.

"Welsh contingent had a solid game tonight," wrote one fan, while another added: "[They've] been excellent tonight, Tomos Williams gotta be in the convo for Lions squad".

"A style of play that’s exciting and freedom to play, that’s why they play well," another commented, while a fourth wrote: "Amazing what you can do with some ball."

On Anscombe's assist, one fan said simply: "That pass gets better every time I see it," while another added: "Solid basics there. Fixes the last two defenders inside shoulders to make it very simple for the winger."
