Wales international Tomos Williams pulled off a sensational solo score in the English Premiership, earning big praise from his boss and everyone watching.

Playing for Gloucester against Sale Sharks at Kingsholm, Williams found himself under pressure on the left-hand touchline and skillfully kicked the ball towards the whitewash.

His path to the ball was obscured to begin with, but once the Welshman got in his stride he was absolutely electric. Numerous Sale players were tearing after the bouncing ball, but they were hopeless to get there before the surging scrum-half, who duly dotted down for a fine score.

TNT Sports commentator Jamie Lyall was blown away by the effort. "Williams, looking to finish it!," he exclaimed. "The Welshman on the rampage!"

Co-commentator Christ Ashton added: "Look, he even gets checked but still manages to find the gas to get there."

It was a fine day for Williams and Gloucester, beating Sharks 36-20. The English club's Welsh collective of Gareth Anscombe, Williams, Josh Hathaway, Max Llewellyn and Freddie Thomas all played a key role in the victory, with the Wales boys getting four of the five Gloucester scores.

Cherry and Whites boss George Skivington was full of praise for his star scrum-half. "Tomos was great again today," explained Skivington. "He has delivered on and off the field. He is just full of energy and links our play up well.

"He is a cheeky chap. He has a laugh and all the rest of it but when it comes to training and playing, he is on it, he is not messing around any more, and his ability to flick the switch between the two is great.

"He is engaged, he wants to win, he is competitive, and his influence will rub off on the young lads here."

With the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia coming up this year, many are now saying Williams has put himself in strong contention for a place in the starting XV after a fine debut season in the Premiership.

Rugby fans shared their thoughts on social media, with many saying exactly the same thing - he has to start for Andy Farrell's side this summer.

"A Welshman who, barring injury should be on the Lions tour," said one. "Should start for the Lions if we’re being fair," said another.

A Gloucester fan added: "I don't think I've seen any player at Kingsholm who has been as big a match winner as Tomos Williams. He always seems to pick the right decision. Immense."
