Wanderers confirm departures of backroom staff after Evatt exit
Wanderers have confirmed the departures of Peter Atherton, Stephen Crainey, Matt Gilks and Lewis Duckmanton following Ian Evatt’s exit by mutual consent earlier this week.
Atherton and Crainey were joint-assistant managers, while Gilks served as goalkeeping coach and Duckmanton as analyst.
Chairman Sharon Brittan thanked the group for being an “integral part” of the club’s journey in recent seasons.
Brittan said: "On behalf of everyone at Bolton Wanderers, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Peter, Stephen, Matt and Lewis for their hard work and commitment during their time at the club.
“They have all contributed to one of the most successful periods in our recent history and have been an integral part of our journey.
“They committed so much time and energy to the club at all times and were extremely loyal to me, which I will always be eternally grateful for. We wish them all the very best for the future.”
Atherton and Duckmanton joined Wanderers along with Evatt from Barrow in the summer of 2020 after winning promotion from the National League.
Gilks arrived shortly afterwards in a player-coach role, having played alongside Evatt at Blackpool.
He played a key role on the pitch as the Whites clinched promotion from League Two at the first time of asking.
Gilks made a handful of appearances the following season before stepping back to focus on his coaching duties.
Crainey – who also played alongside Evatt at Blackpool – arrived from Wigan over the summer to assist the existing backroom team.
