Wanderers youngster Carty completes St Patrick's permanent switch
Wanderers youngster Conor Carty has completed a permanent move to St Patrick’s Athletic, the club has confirmed.
Carty previously had a loan spell with the League of Ireland club and has now put pen to paper over a two-year deal at Richmond Park.
The youngster joined the Whites’ ranks in 2022 following his departure from Wolves and scored on his only senior appearance against Tranmere in the Vertu Trophy group stage.
Carty, who has represented Ireland at Under-21 level, joined Doncaster on loan last year but only made a handful of appearances for the League Two club before suffering a serious knee injury.
"I'm really excited and happy to be back at St Pat's and I'm looking forward to it,” he told the club site.
“I had a great year here in 2023. I know a lot of the staff and players from then so it will be good to see everybody again.
“My relationship with the supporters was really good and you can see how much the club has grown, and the league overall, so I'm looking forward to being part of it again.
“We won a cup the last time I was here and the team obviously had a really strong finish to 2024, so I'm just hoping for a successful season.”
The League of Ireland season kicks off next month and St Patrick’s will be looking to build on their third place finish last term.
"We're very happy to welcome Conor back to St Patrick's Athletic,” manager Stephen Kenny added.
“He has been a part of the group before and has already established good relationships with the staff and players, so he'll be able to settle in straight away.
“He had an excellent loan spell here in 2023, culminating in starting in and winning the FAI Cup Final.
“Conor is a player I've watched from his time with the Republic of Ireland U17s. He plays on the last line and leads from the front, he has a high work ethic and is an all-round number 9 and an exceptional team-mate.
“It's important that we don't expect too much too soon from Conor. He's just back from a long lay-off after his cruciate ligament injury while on loan at Doncaster Rovers.
“The injury halted his progress but that is only temporary. He's signed a two-year contract with us and will be a brilliant addition to the squad.”
