'He wants to play for Wycombe in the Championship' - Sam Grace on Richard Kone
Wycombe Wanderers caretaker manager Sam Grace has insisted that striker Richard Kone is ‘committed’ to the club.
It has been reported that Luton Town, who are now under the stewardship of ex-Chairboys manager Matt Bloomfield, are keen to bring the Ivorian to Kenilworth Road this month.
The 21-year-old has scored 17 times in 38 games for Wanderers this season, with his initial target being 15.
He came off the bench in the recent 0-0 draw at home to Northampton Town and added much-needed spark to the Wanderers attack.
This month’s transfer window will conclude on Monday, February 3.
Speaking after the stalemate against the Cobblers, Grace said: “He’s a committed player.
“Dan Rice, the director of football, is in charge of all of that [transfers] and I think it’s important to say that Rich is committed as well.
“You want players that want to play for your club, and Richard wants Wycombe to get promoted.
“He wants to play for Wycombe in the Championship.
“If he was unhappy, he wouldn’t have been on the bench so I don’t think he’s unsettled.
“The way he played when we came on doesn’t look like an unsettled player.
“He’s sharp, he wants to learn and he’s ready to come on when asked.”
Up next for Wanderers is Barnsley at home on January 28.
