The Dolphins have officially confirmed their interest in St Helens star Morgan Knowles. Rugby League Live revealed earlier this week that the Super League club was facing an uphill battle to retain the England forward, who is off-contract at the end of the season.

The NRL club are coached by Kristian Woolf, the former St Helens boss who won three consecutive Super League titles during his team at the club, with Knowles an instrumental figure in that side.

The 28-year-old is now commanding strong interest from Woolf and the Phins, with the club's CEO Terry Reader confirming they want to sign the Cumbrian ahead of the 2026 season. Reader went as far as to say Knowles wants to test himself in the NRL.

“We have seen the press," Reader told AAP.

“Woolfy coached him and they won three premierships together at St Helens. He wants to test himself in the NRL and there is interest to talk to him. That’s where it is at the moment.

“We are always interested in good players, especially if they want to play for us. We’ll have a chat and see what happens."

Naturally, losing Knowles would be a big blow to St Helens given he is in the prime years of his career. St Helens still hold out hope that they can retain him and are working hard to do so. However, there is also an understanding that the opportunity to try out the NRL may prove too good to turn down.
