WARRINGTON Town face perhaps their biggest game of the season to date tomorrow as they visit fellow strugglers Needham Market.

And given it is also their longest away trip of the campaign, the club are leaving nothing to chance in pursuit of a precious three points.

Rather than make the journey of more than 200 miles to Suffolk on the day of the game as they would usually do, the team are instead travelling today and are staying in the area overnight.

While a considerable financial expense, it is hoped breaking the long trip up will maximise their chances of picking up what would be a huge victory in their second consecutive match against a relegation rival.

"I think it’s a lot easier to be switched on when your preparations start on a Friday," club captain Josh Amis told the club website.

"I’m sure all the lads will try to prepare as well as they can.

"A lot of them have family commitments, so maybe they'll be happy with a night away from their partners and kids!

"But in all seriousness, it’s a lot easier when you haven’t got a 4/5 hour drive on the day of the game, and hopefully we'll be a lot fresher on the pitch as a result."

‘We are up for the fight,’ says Warrington Town skipper

Needham Market currently sit bottom of the National League North table having won just five times all season – the same number as Town.

Together, the two sides sit alongside Marine in having the least number of league victories this season.

Four of Needham’s wins have come on the road, including at the Cal.Delivery Stadium back in August, but they have found things more of a struggle on home turf, losing nine of their 13 home fixtures.

Yellows themselves have won only once away from home this season but Amis insists he and his teammates are up for the fight as they look to pull themselves away from trouble, with only goal difference keeping them out of the dreaded bottom four currently.

It is really tight down at the bottom, but as it is every week, the work starts on the training pitch," the striker said.

"We need a win - it’s as simple as that.

"No-one needs telling that performances haven’t been up to the standards we've come to expect over the last few years, but it was always going to be a tough ask this season.

"This group of players are up for the battle, and that’s what has earned us success over the years.

"We need to show that never-say-die attitude and provide a threat right until the end. Hopefully we can find some form, to help us look up the table rather than what's going on below us.

"I’d also like to say a big thank you to the fans, home and away, for their support.

"They pay their money every week and support the lads with their songs and cheering. That doesn’t go unnoticed, and we appreciate it as players.

"Having that extra man will be crucial for us as we keep moving towards the business end of the season."
