TWO Warrington Wolves youngsters are to spend the 2025 season out on loan – and could end up playing against their parent club in a fortnight.

Hooker Ben Hartill and winger Frank Sergent – both of whom featured in last week’s pre-season friendly defeat to Widnes Vikings – have joined Swinton Lions on deals that cover the entire Betfred League One season.

Swinton are, of course, one of two potential opponents for The Wire in the Challenge Cup third round – they take on Whitehaven on Saturday afternoon with the winner hosting Sam Burgess’ side on February 8. It is believed both Hartill and Sargent would be eligible to play should Swinton advance.

Hartill is familiar with the Lions having played four times for them during a loan spell in 2024 and he will now be coached by former Wire icon Paul Wood, who has taken over as Swinton head coach having previously worked with Hartill during a brief stint in the Warrington academy.

He made his Super League debut against Wigan Warriors in June of last year while Sergent is yet to feature competitively for the first team, although he did score a try in Joe Philbin's Testimonial match against Leigh Leopards last year.

“Ben is a smart player with excellent game management, knowing exactly when to jump from dummy-half and control the game.

“He’s solid in defence with the ability to hit hard and is also willing to put in all the unseen efforts that contribute to winning games.

“His attitude and ability are highly respected by Warrington Wolves, and we’re thrilled to have him as part of our squad.

“Frankie loves to carry the ball and isn’t afraid to go looking for it, showing great desire.

“He also has the ability to read attacking plays and shut them down defensively, making him a key player on both sides of the game.

“What really stands out is his eagerness to learn and develop, which fits perfectly with the environment we’re building here at the Lions.

“Both players bring hunger, talent, and a willingness to grow – qualities that will make a huge impact on our team this season and beyond.

“We’re excited to see what Frankie and Ben can bring to Swinton Lions in 2025.”
